Council Tax Refund

in Cutting tax
So a couple of weeks back, following advice from a district nurse, I filled a form in from my local council (Rotherahm) for a disabled rebate thing. I should probably mention that I don't understand council tax or most bills really thanks to my various disabilities so I just did it and sent it off.
I then got a visit from a lady from the council tax office who took a look around my flat (which is purpose built for a wheelchair user), saw that I use my wheelchair full-time, including at home, and told me I qualfied for the disability reduction and that it could be backdated to when I moved into the flat in 2015 as I had evidence that I was a wheelchair user going right back to 2006.
This lady also asked if I live alone, which I do, and told me i get a single person discount and that that would be backdated as well. I just had to fill in another form, with her help, for that.
This morning I got a phone call from this lady's manager who has done the calculations and tells me that not only does this wipe out this year's council tax bill completely, so I don't need to pay anything until next year, but that THEY owe ME £798.13 and that this will be paid into my bank account shortly.
What a result! Definitely worth doing, even if you don't understand it.
