O/S Daily Wednesday 3 July 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Bright dry and sunny start. I will peg washing out shortly. Got a wash load line dried yesterday too.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken portions with HM egg and veg fried rice with a spanish tomato sauce. Tonight will be sausages, mash, veg and gravy.

Yesterday work was slow to start but then busier in the afternoon, we'll see what happens today, but it's my last working day as I'll be on annual leave from this afternoon - can't wait! I have the normal "to do" list from tomorrow to get ready for going away on Saturday,

Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

Mehefin, I'm sorry that you are going through such a difficult time with your son. It is so hard to stand back when you believe that your child is making poor choices.

I will be working this afternoon so have some prep go do for that, similar tomorrow.

Yesterday I managed to do tge jobs I meant to do, today must iron some clothes for work, that's about it really.

Best wishes for all of us who are sad, worried or unwell.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun has his hat on and is forecast to keep it on most of the day.

It's bus ride day today. A toss of the coin will decide where we are bound for when we meet up in the bus station in town. Skipton is a good choice on a nice sunny day with a wander round the market and cs. And of course a nice lunch and bottle of wine. Today would be a good choice for canal side dining.

My poor peonies are looking a bit battered after the wind we've had. Most of them are all but flat on the path and steps. I might cut a few for a vase before they start getting trampled on. They never seem to last long indoors though.

MEHEFIN you have my sympathy. We went through similar with our DS. All the signs pointed to her being Bi-polar but said she wasn't and refused all medication. His and our lives were hell. That was in the past thankfully but the memories stay with me.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and MIA. Thinking especially of HOLLY and POPPY, how are you both? Take care one and all xx

    Morning all

Nice day here again, its been a great week weather wise.

I could not get on here at all yesterday my laptop is playing up and wont connect to the internet at all, I have managed to get on today bu plugging it directly into the router, i have contacted someone to see if they can help fix it for me.

Work today and then ham egg and chips for dinner with low fat chips.
I need to do a wash tonight and have a tidy through.

I told the cleaner Monday that we no longer require her so we need to start doing a few bits per night to try and keep on top of it.

Mehefin there can be nothing harder than watching your child do something that you know is wrong, unfortunately the more you argue with him the more he will dig his heals in, if he does end up going (and I suspect he will) keep the lines of communication open make a date for a phone call at least once a week and be super nice to the girl too, maybe visit occasionally, hopefully he will eventually see that the grass is not greener and come home, I know its going to be hard for you but I think you need to play the long game , hugs to you xx

Right i had better get on have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a lovely sunny morning here, I am just waiting for the grandchildren to arrive for breakfast. I would have loved another hour in bed to be honest but I will probably have a nana nap later on.

The cleaner came yesterday and she did a fantastic job. I am just wondering how many hours to ask her to do every fortnight. She got an awful lot done in 2 hours but didn't have to do the dining room as we are gutting it over the weekend to lay new flooring down. I would also like her to clean my bedroom so I will need at least 3 hours I suspect.

I have my mental health worker coming to see me this afternoon. He is a very nice chap but he only works a couple of days a week and will be retiring soon I would think. It is good to have someone to talk to though so I will appreciate him while he is around.

Steve took some mince out last night so I will be asking Lee to make a chilli for tea. I am still working my way through the cauliflower rice I bought but I don't mind as I quite like it and it saves on so many calories.

Sending you a hug mehefin, all you can do is be there for him if it all goes wrong xx
nmlc, hope your last day in work flies by and you have a fab holiday xx
TA, enjoy your trip out to the market, I hope you have a lovely lunch with your friend xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning, it's a nice sunny morning here, not bad at all.

Hope you enjoy your day out TA.

Mehefin, sorry to hear you're having family problems, it's so difficult to see your adult children making bad choices.

    NMLC, enjoy your holiday.

Yesterday was a busy day, we had Dgs as usual for a Tuesday, then the monthly residents' meeting at which I take the minutes, then out again to the quiz. DH didn't come to the meeting or the quiz because he has a heavy cold and nasty cough.

We've got Dgs this morning while his Mum has her hair done, but we won't keep him all day as there are things we need to get done prior to going away. We are her only baby sitters really, so we always try to help.

I've got last night's meeting minutes to type and then email to the chairman, that'll be another job jobbed. There's a bit of a shopping list as well, and a parcel to collect from a local shop, but it'll all get done.

I read something interesting about early/ frequent waking, and I do suffer from this. It said it could be caused by dehydration, your body is waking you to drink.
Anyway, I've tried to drink more over the last couple of days, and I always have a bottle of water by the bed. Ok, I've got up twice during the night instead of once but it's worth a try.

Anyway, hope everyone has as good a day as they can.

    Take care folks xx

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

Mehefin,as others have said all you can do is be there for your son if things go wrong. I know it's hard to watch them making mistakes.

    TA enjoy your day

nmlc hope you have a lovely holiday

Yesterday we went out for lunch, lovely not having to cook.
Today I need to collect an order from M&S, not much else planned.

    Good morning everyone,

    Happy hump day.

I stayed later in work yesterday to phone my clients in America and phoned my mum en route home for a catch up. She's uptight about my step dads up and coming 60th birthday and trying to organise something special. The live in at the end of a street and are really friendly with the neighbours so they're having a small street party but of course, she's footing the bill!

I've mentioned it before but I saw the end of 24 Hours in A&E last night. I bloody love that programme. Fills you will with hope and pride in our NHS.

Been to the gym this morning and will go to yoga at lunch. No plans this evening although trying a new pork stir fry recipe. No spends yesterday means today will be #3.

meanmarie & AoD - Thanks for the suggestions on salt deficiency or dehydration. Hadn't considered that to be fair, so I'll monitor these going forward.
TA - I read that as ponies and my jaw dropped when you said about them lying flat and cutting them up!!!

    Morning all

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Marvin, as others have said keep in contact and grit your teeth otherwise you could lose your son completely.

Shopping today and then we'll move, I shan't be sorry, next doors dog yapped non-stop for three hours yesterday evening. They were sat on the grass with it but it's so excitable, I don't think they notice it any more. I'm very grateful Beano is so quiet.

I cooked chicken pie, new potatoes, broccoli and green beans for stroke club yesterday, most people seemed happy with it.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Mehefin, it's so difficult trying to bite your tongue when dealing with adult children. As others have said, keep the lines of communication open so that he can turn to you if need be.

Redruby, it's the other end that wakes me up to go to the loo. I have a friend who won't drink after 7pm because of this but I think that is foolish.

Laura had a bit of a scare last night and ended up at the hospital again. Everything seems to be ok but she might have an infection. She's not working today so hopefully she'll be able to take it easy.

I used oven cleaner last night so I have to wipe it off this morning, hopefully it will leave the shelves gleaming, it was long overdue. I need to oil the stainless steel appliances as well, I haven't done it for ages but it really brings them to life. The other big job for today is cleaning the windows inside. I may do a couple outside as well although we pay a window cleaner when the sun is shining the kitchen window looks awful.

    Morning from mehefinland
Thank you all for your words of support. I know we have to stand back and make them make their own mistakes and way in life, but something is so blatantly wrong it is so difficult.
For instance at 7 last night he was thinking of ending the relationship. Then he talked to her and she has supposedly got a job which then puts the pressure on him to give up his and move to Dorset to be with her. This went on until nearly 11 pm going over and over the same arguments. Its like a drip and a stone and we can see him wilting under the pressure. However as of this morning he said he wasn't going to hand in his notice ( I think there was an unspoken 'yet' ).
Mrs I think the job thing is a ploy and even if it existed she would jack it in as soon as DS had moved down there. He seems to see the sense in what we are saying but is bowing to the pressure coming from the GF. I don't see it ending well whatever happens.

On that happy note , hugs and spoons as always to those in need.
I will keep you posted as we have exhausted the topic at home but as I am here alone most of the day I find it easier to vent on here. Sorry folks

    Mehefin
