OH has asked for a Banjo for Christmas - help!

So he has asked for a banjo, and I would assume he will need a starter kit too, with a book and what not.
Is there anyone who knows anything about them?
And where I can get one from? How much it will cost etc.
Ebay has some, but they are all different!

Thanks guys!
I didn't know where to start, not in any way musical, not even a buyer of CD's!0 -
I would suggest going into your nearest decent music shop, and asking for some advice.....thye'll be more than happy to help.
I did the same last year - DF had been muttering about a mandolin for ages, so when I got my bank charges back I bought him one for his birthday...didn't have the faintest idea so spoke to our local music shops & made decision after that.
Good luck - does he play the guitar or is he musical at all?0 -
Floss2 His two brothers play things, one guitar and one drums, so he must have some talent in there somewhere.
Will get into a music shop at some point, DS2 quite ill at the moment making going out difficult, so will wait till I get someone to babysit.
Has your DF used his mandolin much? Or was it just a phase?0
