Cash off vouchers

I've emailed Tesco and got this relpy:

Thank you for your email.

I have detailed below some information on the acceptance of coupons in our stores which I hope will help you.

All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.

We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item. But, the coupon must be in date and the store must sell the product. If you present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet, but these will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.

sorry to sound dense but is it just tesco's that you can hand a wad of vouchers to (even if you haven't bought the product) or can you do this in sainsburys etc?!?!

I tend to do my shopping in sainsburys and would love to save money at the tills!

You don't sound dense, newcook, but sadly Sainsburys do not have the same policy.

Only Tesco, Asda and Waitrose will accept some coupons without you having to buy the product (seems strange to include Waitrose in this but they do accept some and are lovely about it. In my local Waitys they allow 3 coupons per transaction, whereas my local Asda says 10% max).

My last 3 shops at ASDA have been much more productive with vouchers. I tend to use ASDA for a £5 shop as they then give me back my car parking charge in the shopping complex.

Last week I managed to get it down to 0p and after much hilarity with a senior SA and two other SA's there was absolutely no problem with that at all. They told me to come back again! :T

I have found both Tesco's and Asda will only take 5 vouchers at a time - even checked with customer services, frustrating as I often more! Have tried splitting shopping but is a little time consuming. Saving he high value coupons I normally save £5 or so pounds per shop.

Tecos' will take ASDA or Sainsburys specific vouchers if they stock the product, very handy!

please note tesco will only accept sainsburys or asda coupons that are for instance £2 off a £20 / £5 off a £50 spend, they dont accept other store coupons for specific products, please dont try to use any other supermarket coupons in tesco, as this could mean the end of the current coupon policy
