A bit of a moan really....

Options
Following on from my maths help thread from a little while ago I'd just like to convey how fed up I am dealing with my debts! I also feel quite stupid.

I've been doing my second job for OVER a year now and instead of doing the sensible thing and putting the extra money away to try pay things off early like this damn loan which has been hanging round my neck since I was 18, I didn't. Instead now when I'm starting to get fed up of working at the damn place I realise my stupidity and feel depressed when I've still got another year at least at the place before I can pay the loan off early.

I just want to be debt free NOW!! LOL I've made myself some little spread sheets which I enjoy playing with and checking my account on a daily basis which has made it a little more 'fun'! I'm inpatient now. Once the loan has been paid off I'll be slightly more free and I can do more things with my life.

I just feel trapped now.

Sorry about this - hope i haven't said anything to offend anyone (I have a habit of doing that!), i just need to get it clear in my head!!!

  • You haven't offended me! :D

I think what you are going through is quite normal and its fab that you are making this situation as fun as possible.

I know you already have a second job, but why not try and add to your income even more by finding things to ebay or doing boot sales? Even saving your spare change can make a difference - and all this added income will give you more figures to play with on your sheet.

    xx

  • I've ebayed all that I can!! I'm a complete ebay addict and I'll end up starting to list stuff that isn't mine!! LOL I moved house 7 months ago and during that move I flogged everything possible and i've only got a few bits of clothes left to do from a new sortout that I did over the weekend to list which I'm going to do tomorrow night.

And I use all the change in my purse apart from coppers which go into my tin. Ohhh that reminds me, I must count it up, havent done so recently.

I know this feeling all too well.

Trust me it goes away after a while, you just need to focus on other things in your life, being a DFW is an important aspect of my life, but i have lots of other things to do.

    Hi there,

I have been posting on your maths thread and I think it is all psychological because of the fixed term of your loan.

My advice is to concentrate on building up savings, you have already said that the rest of your debt is 0% and a car loan that you are not worried about. I think this will give you a much needed boost.

At the end of my DF journey all my debt was on a 0% card and I loved accruing all the money in my savings account, it was easier seeing a balance go up instead of down IYSWIM? I counted myself as debt free as soon as I had more in savings than on the card.

Do you already use quidco, pigsback etc? Take a look at Immoral Angel's diary, she makes stacks from cash back sites. I have never quite got my head around matched betting and would only advise if you're 100% confident.

Good luck with it, I think you'll be DF by the end of November 2008 at the very latest..... and then you can tackle the car loan!

  • I just feel that all I do is work, work and work! I have about a half an hour gap between leaving full time work and starting evening job. I've just had enough!! *stomps foot* LOL
  • I do pigsback and I've got myself one £10 voucher for boots which I'll use for xmas presents. Trouble is for quidco you need to spend it to get it back and I don't always have the money there to spend first! LOL

I've tried to read up on matched betting but I can't get my head round it.
  • Hey just to add about quidco it's not all spending, you get 10p for searches on kelkoo and other comparison sites, money for signing up to stuff that's free (e.g. baileys gave away 42p for entering a comp), so it's not all spending. :)

  • It's really good that you came on here to have a bit of a grumble instead of having a blow out on comfort spending. This shows that you aren't stupid and that you are definitely capable of learning.

And think how fast a year goes. Doesn't last Christmas feel like a blink ago?

Chin up, nothing lasts forever and this won't either!

Yes I know you are right - it only feels like five mins ago that I started working at the pub and I shouldn't moan because I could have been putting money away every month since I started there so definatly my own fault. Just gets me down really.

Ok deep breath - and get ready for work. Quiz night tonight so it will be manic!!!
  • I know what you mean - I got my CC's down to 1770 and now theyre right back up again to 7770 & thats way above my comfort zone. We've just got to make better choices cos it doesent go away on its own! Big hug for you! It is hard but we will get there!
