Boot on the other foot... I want to COLLECT a debt from someone!

Long story short, this bloke lied to me and an ex-business partner about his legal credentials and we paid him £2,500 to "fight" a case for us against a bank debt. We should have been more careful, but we were desperate. Turns out he was a lying conman...
Anyhow, we got a CCJ against him, paid for the warrant of execution and handed it over to the bailiffs... great... they say (I had to call them, they didn't bother contacting me!) he's a known rogue, he lives in rented accommodation, he's on benefits (they'd probably be interested in the £2,500 he made from us whilst on benefits then!), his car is worth next to nothing, he has very little in his flat and they reckon I've no chance of ever getting any money back from him.
This is money we deperately need to continue our legal battle and yet the court system doesn't appear to give a toss. He carries on claiming his benefits, probably has money squirrelled away that he keeps under the mattress or something and is, as far as I can see, making a mockery of the entire system...
Is there any hope for us or would you say we're completely stuffed?
