We splashed out today as well.
Went for our flu jabs this morning and picked up a takeaway Costa as we walked back to the car. First one for about 6 months, and £6.50 I hadn't budgeted for (we went LARGE!).5 -

Well isn't 2021 getting off to a fab start....not. Well financially things seem OK, but that's about it!!!
I've tried to order some posh smellies from Ireland, but they are not currently shipping to the UK. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing whilst they sort out their customs paperwork!!
So I've bought new running shoes and leggings instead!! (seeing as running is something I can still do!!)
Although looking out the window this morning, i doubt anyone wants to go anywhere in that!!
Oh well, we'll keep on keeping on.
*ETA - Just found a UK stockist of my Irish smellies. I am now another £77 lighter!!3 -

Haha, last few comments made me laugh re Costa and the flu jab.I have been treating myself to quite a few things lately. Who doesn’t need a brand new Montane walking coat. Actually I don’t as have enough coats to fill a wardrobe already, but this one is incredibly warm and more importantly in a lovely shade of teal. I also bought fleece lined walking trousers and a fleece lined Rab hat. All been brilliant in this weather.
On the running front bought new Altra trail running shoes and Ronhill running hat.
Not going on holiday this year has saved us a fortune but we have spent quite a bit getting ceiling and walls in lounge plastered.Actually enjoying watching my savings grow despite my expenditure, though can’t wait for “normal” life to resume, if it ever does. I can see lockdowns in some form for many years with mutations etc.Main thing for us as a family is high dose Vitamin D3 and improving our metabolic health. And on that note I am off for a very long walk.Money SPENDING Expert3 -

Good Afternoon everyone.
Well it's been an eventful week!!! For those who haven't seen my thread in the Techie section of the forum, my laptop went do-lally on Sunday (wouldn't boot), and for a horrible few days I thought I'd lost all my spreadsheets!!!
They had been backed up to USB and the cloud, but they were still a little out of date.
Luckily a local repairer was able to retrieve all the data from the failing HDD and transfer it all onto a new SSD. This was for about half the cost of an equivalent "new" refurbished machine.
Big relief in SS towers!!!! It's running sweet as a nut now, and much faster too!!
So yes, note to self....back up files more regularly!! (and have just bought another USB stick too)
It's funny though, going through my files and having a bit of a spring clean, just how much "junk" gets saved over the years. I had stuff going back to when we bought our first laptop back in 2007!! I think that most of that can be safely dispatched to the "recycle bin".How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)5 -
I did have a laptop but, as most of what I did involved the net or spreadsheets, I decided to invest in a budget Chromebook when it died last year. So far I'm happy.
When the cloud first came out I was a bit sceptical but now I back up everything to it.

When I had my PC, I thought everything was being backed up to the cloud - it wasn't. It is now ...

You should make use of cloud storage: even free amounts (can use several - google, sync, outlook, etc). Then store the spreadsheets but know that they are always backed up as well: avoid the need to to USB backups (or do them as well for belt & braces!)
SSD should make a MASSIVE difference to speed!Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!2
