Bottled water prices, ridiculous?

Hi there i hope iv posted on the right board!

I know all you lot are moneysavers, so what do you think of this.

I went to the Cinema last night (Odeon), and instead of buying sugary drinks and popcorn, i just bought a bottle of 500ml water. now you can but them in the shops for less than 50p, and ive been o places where it has been a pound, which is far too expensie IMHO. but no, in the odeon, they were charging... wait for it... £1.90 for a bottle of water. is that me, or is that ludicrous?

ok, rant over!

And then on my hols in Tunisia you could get a large bottle of water (ie, a couple of litres) for around 40p.

Yes it is ludicrous, but I guess they only charge what people are willing to pay. I've stopped buying things at the cinema (apart from the odd scoop of that lovely Ben & Jerry's icecream!) and I always take my own in my bag.

    Don't buy it then!
I go to the cinema every month or so but never ever part cash to buy sweets, popcorn, drinks etc - it's such a rip off and where they make their money. You can do without it - it's only a couple of hours!

Queenie, i did see star wars actually, and im sorry to dissapoint/upset people, but I didnt really enjoy it very much, its not my favourite type of film to see, but all the hype, and the fact my friends all wanted to see ot, led me to see it. Ewan Mcgregor was good though!

tripeyfox, i wouldn't normally buy anything at the cinema, but it was only due to the fact i had a headache, and star wars was so long, it seemed to go on forever lol!

I once worked in a well known cinema chain and was told by one of the managers that they made a large bin liner sized bag of popcorn for less than a penny ??!!!!
a small container was sold for £3.25 what a rip off,the refreshments are where the cinemas make all their profit.
    bye hoo

I work in a college - the only drinking water provided is from the cold tap (which I don't trust as there is nothing to say whether it's direct from the mains or not). There are no cups or glasses provided anyway. There is a vending machine selling water at 80p a bottle - Coke etc is 70p.

I would never buy any snacks or drinks at the cinema, they are such a rip off. My nearest cinema now has big signs all over the place telling people they may only consume food and drink purchased in the cinema, ie not to bring their own in. Flipping cheek...it's already a fiver to get in and they don't have any reduced entry fees for students, those on benefits etc.

Making popcorn isnt very expensive at all. A handful of corn can make a large container of popcorn about 20x the size of the corn.

When the big multiplexes started opening in France they wondered why they weren't as profitable as they are everywhere else. It's because the French don't buy popcorn, or, indeed, much fast food at all - or certainly didn't when these things started popping up! And that IS where they make their profit! (but not from me!)
