Help!

I have missed my payment for 2 of my catalogues this month due to losing my job and losing tax credits. I can not afford to pay either of them till next month at the earliest coz I don't start my new job until next week and it will probably be 1 month ahead or whatever it is.

So whe I have just phoned one of the catalogues to sort out how to pay it she said that I have incurred a late charge and that next month I need to pay £100+! I was like well I can't afford that! If I can't afford £40 then how can I afford that?! And all she said was that I would have to speak to the financial department and they would put a red flag on my account and that I couldn't use my account anymore and that I would be blacklisted for any applications for credit.

I have just applied for a loan today as I am going to use it to pay off all my catalogues and credit cards and just pay the one payment a month. Will it affect this and how do I get out of this situation, I really hate being in debt adn want to get this sorted.

Please help!

Kelly

It will probably be a mark on your credit file for late payment, but I think she was just trying to scare you - there's no such thing as a blacklist, every application is considered individually. If you've got a really good credit history up to now then it shouldn't be a problem.

Don't know if catalogues are covered in the reclaiming charges campaigns? £40 is definitely a ridiculous amount. I'd ditch them as soon as you can - they sound like a bunch of morons.

    Good luck!

Ring them back and ask to speak to someone in the financial department.Explain your new job, that you can make your payment, though it will be a little late.Say you aren't in financial difficulties you just need this extra bit of time.
I rang mine when I had tax credit problems, they were great, just put a not on my account with a date I said I'd make payment by.I did keep to the date though.
If you do only need the extra time this is the way to go.If you feel you may not make the payment then ask them to suspend your account now so you don't incurr anymore charges and make arrangements to pay in installments. This will affect your credit rating though!!!

  • Very naughty of the woman on the phone to try to scare you like that. There's no such thing as a blacklist, any application is solely on your current situation and 1 missed payment won't affect anything very much.
