Council Tax Re-brand Confirmed - Can previous Tenant Claim refund?

Hi all,

Another successful CT re-brand story here. Thanks thanks to MSE for the great advice and guide!

My question is, can the previous tenant of the flat also claim for the 3 years they lived here? The re-brand letter claims that the building should have been the new band since it was built in 2010, so surely thats admission of an overpayment for previous owners/tenants too?

I'm still in contact with the previous tenant you see, but he had a reluctant council worker on the phone when he called.

Anyone else had experience of retrospective claiming like this?

The council will backdate the actual band change as far as the VOA alter it. If that causes a credit for someone prior to the current occupier then that party an claim any refund - there are cases when a person may not be entitled to a refund (received an exemption, had received full council tax benefit etc).

Ahh great, thanks for confirming CIS. Thats what i thought too, but i wounder why the local agent was so dismissive to him when he called.
I'll tell him to call again.
