Help - Any suggestions on to get a Tailors Dummy on a Uni Budget?

Just has an SOS from DS. His GF is doing Fashion and Design at Uni - in her final year, and having to put a collection together. On her course they have to design and make the garments and she needs a pinable Tailors Dummy. Kennett & Lindsell or Stockman are the good makes but they are £150 on Ebay. It seems the adjustable ones have holes in them, and are not true
Any suggestions ideas please.

Hi, I usually lurk on the DFW board but popped my head in here today. Instructions here on how to make a duct tape double. www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00002_p2.asp
Could be a fun project for the two of them to do !

Could she approach a few local dressmakers or tailors and ask to borrow an old dummy? Or ask them where she could get an old dummy? She might be able to 'swop' working hours in the tailor's in exchange for a dummy ( which would be good practical experience for her.)0

There's a charitable trust for tailors etc they give grants for people in or retired from the trade I'll see if I can dig out the info might be worth giving them a call if they can't help they may have addresses of local firms who you could approach for one??
Sadly most of our clothing factories have shut down now as the production is based 'overseas' mainly..I used to make shirts for Jaeger,Conran,Aquascutum etc but these are all made abroad now..:silenced:
:silenced: ...When buying clothes you can always check the quality of a garment by the stitch size..;) 0 -
Hi Donny-gal,
As your thread has fallen off the front page of Old Style I've moved it to the I wanna board to see if you can get any more suggestions.

They could try making a mannequin based on a basic princess seamed bodice block (they'll know what I'm on about) and then stuffing it with wadding. I've seen it described somewhere only I can't remember where. The bottom of the mannequin had an oval wooden base (easy enough to get someone to cut) and the whole thing was supported by a broom handle. Sounds funny, but it would definitely be pinnable.0
