18 months ago, whilst rebalancing my portfolio, I was humming and hawing over whether to increase my exposure to the US. There was already much muttering that the US, in particular, was over-valued.It will be invested with the rest as per the rest of my pension.

Having finally decided to follow conventional wisdom and ignore market timing (no crystal ball in my living room), I went ahead. Two weeks later the markets dropped.
Gulp.
.... and proceeded to recover throughout the summer, and then dropped again at the end of last year.
Gulp.
... and have proceeded to recover and rise throughout this year.
Would your crystal ball have foreseen the best time to invest last year?
The 'gulps' above are artistic licence as this is normal market behaviour. If professionals can't time the markets then we have no chance.
"Time in the market, not timing the market" is the important criteria in equity investment. Even then, there are no guarantees (unlike death and taxes).:)0 -
