Child working full time

Hi all, I’ve looked all over the internet and am finding it very hard to find an answer to this. Would be very grateful if anyone can shed any light.
My partner has always payed child maintenance for his kids. The youngest has just turned 18. She has not spoken to us for a few months. Everything seemed fine and then out of the blue she won’t reply to his texts, even on her birthday. We suspect this may be because she and her mum and trying to conceal certain info from us. Her mother has a history of benefit fraud.
The last thing we knew (several months ago) was that his daughter was in ‘full time’ education (she told us it was full time, and that she planned to continue full time in Sept. 2019, although this sounded a bit sketchy as she was only talking about taking one subject... I suppose this could still constitute 12 hours). But here’s the thing. She was also working 40 hours per week at Marks and Spencer’s and by the sounds of it fast earning respect there.
1. Is my partner able to ring college and ask them directly if she is still studying full time or will they say that they cannot tell him due to data protection laws (she’s 18)?
2. If she is still in full time Ed but working 40 hours per week (and probably earning as much as him when you take into account his travel costs), should he still be paying child maintenance? It’s not as if he hasn’t been a good father financially. He recently went halves on buying her a car (his son purchased the car and lied about how much it cost so he could get more money out of his dad by dishonest means - this is what the family is like). We can’t communicate openly with them as the last time we tried that, his ex said she was going to find me and punch my lights out.
Please help! Thanks in advance.

1. Is my partner able to ring college and ask them directly if she is still studying full time or will they say that they cannot tell him due to data protection laws (she’s 18)? - if he has parental responsibility, that would normally be sufficient. But he can ask the CMS too

I would ask the CMS to check0 -
Marks and Spencer’s does paid apprentenships. If that is what she is doing then child benefit stops.
