O/S Daily Tuesday 25 June 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull, dreich and steadily pouring with rain, laying water everywhere - it started sometime during the early hours and doesn't look like stopping any time soon!. Forecast says it should stop mid morning, we'll see.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was hot bbq chicken drumsticks, breaded chicken portions (DH), pork pie (DH and DS1), hot new potatoes/jacket potatoes, hard boiled egg, salad and coleslaw. This was the food I'd planned for Saturday night but we went to mum and dad's for a bbq with bro and SIL. Tonight hairdresser is booked so dinner will be later, we'll be having pork steaks, mash, LO veg, and gravy.

Yesterday work was much busier than we expected, so the day passed by really quickly. Hoping today will be the same. Only next week at work then holiday for me. Can't wait.

Keep safe and well x

Hello and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

It is grey and rainy but warm too. Rain is forecast through the day so my plan to clear weeds from a border is unlikely to happen today but I've plenty of indoor things to do.

Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's looking very threatening out there. Sunshine, cloud and showers forecast. Yesterday's thunderstorm consisted of one loud clap of thunder and about 4 minutes of rain at lunchtime!

DD is picking me up on her way to school to take me plant shopping! The newly done back garden is still looking very minimalist as most of my existing plants went in the skip! So I am wanting a few large Mediterranean looking plants to sit in colourful pots on the large newly pebbled area. I also want a new bird bath and bird table/feeder - the existing one crashed over so many times in last winter's winds it is now an eyesore held together by string!

No Tuesday coffee and lunch meet up today, that's postponed until tomorrow so I need to plan today's eats. Bought a few nice bits ys in M & S yesterday so I am spoilt for choice!

After today's spending I must tighten my belt a bit. The decorating of the hall/stairs and then the garden "makeover" have taken a chunk out of my savings. So I shall be back to living from the freezer and store cupboards now for a while! I need to tidy the freezers out and do a new inventory seeing as my last list went to pot and I have no idea what's out there!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Very light rain here and no sign of any thunder or lightening which they said we would have the rain is meant to clear up later too.

Work today I have some office work I need to be getting on with we are opening another cafe on site next week which I shall be overseeing so I need to get the paperwork sorted for that.

Dinner tonight will be the leftover chicken and a few chips and salad, there is stuffing too which OH will have most off I am not too keen and only like a tiny bit.

We think we have decided to get rid of the cleaner, I am finding that things are not being done properly, last week I saw a dead bug on the kitchen window sill (the day she had been) and wiped it with a wipe, which came away filthy, I took everything of the window and sprayed it and wiped and the cloth came away black, I have noticed the floors not being hoovered properly and there has been a cobweb upstairs on the light for weeks ( I have left it to see if she does it !!) the skirting s have never been done and this is something I asked her to do, and I asked her to pull out the sofas once a month which is not being done, she seems to spend a lot of time fluffing cushions and making the house look nice without proper cleaning iyswim ?? We will have her this week and then make a decision. I cant afford to pay that money each week for a cushion flutter !!

Right I had better get on.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning folks.

Whilst Edinburgh had flash floods yesterday there was hardly any rain here, just dark clouds and very muggy all day. It's already brighter here.

DM wasn't good yesterday so stayed in bed again. I've started a food diary of her intake to keep track of it. I went out for a short walk and a small shop though it was mainly me sitting in a cafe reading the paper for half an hour.

I'm still doing a stealth operation of getting rid of some of the clutter from cupboards. Empty plant pots are now in a bag along with a box of unneeded 'traditional' lamp bulbs - these are going to a friend who can use them. The fittings here are bayonet type whilst the bulbs are screw ones. I've also bagged two smallbroken electrical items unused for about 15 years , they're next to go out.

This morning I'm going for my dental check-up and hygienist visit. Highlight of the day! I've got something on every day this week for a change, not used to this 'busy' life!

TA - have a lovely plant shop, it's exciting choosing what to grow.

    Happy Tuesday to all.

    Morning All

Strange weather here, overcast but warm and humid. Yesterday's thunderstorm didn't last very long and we only had a little shower, not the torrential downpour we were forecast thank goodness.

I met a friend for dinner last night, it was good to catch up with her, she's just back from visiting her DS and family in Hong Kong.

I'm having a very much needed haircut and eyebrow wax tonight, I look like a shaggy dog!

Hope you're all well, have a happy Tuesday. Take care. XX

    Good morning everyone,

It's been a sticky, warm and wet 24 hours, which is rather uncomfortable.

Usual Monday from me yesterday which ended with a really difficult yoga class. Well at least it was difficult for me. I was dripping sweat and seemed to be the only person who was. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

I set my alarm this morning for the wrong time so I missed my window to go to the gym (honestly, I didn't mean it). I'll go after work. Pizza tonight, which should be my last unhealthy meal as I have the physio first thing tomorrow. I'm hoping she tells me that I am fit to do some cardio again, which signals the end of my 'bulking'.

My old boss has moved to a new position, still in Scotland, and has asked if I would like to join him. The package hasn't been defined yet but I expect it could be much higher than my current salary. I'm going to try and speak with him to see if he can gave me any indication.

    Yesterday was NSD #12

RR - Is it through an agency/company? Can they send someone else?

Just want to add a bit about DM's 'clutter' - whilst she has an enormous amount of stuff it's all neatly stored in a large number of cardboard boxes, all properly labelled! There is one cupboard in the hall which has shelves of preserves, painting stuff (canvases and so on), buckets, wine rack, old army box etc - again all neatly arranged. As for the kitchen cupboards  I am nervous about going into the back of them.

So, no mess, just cupboards and shelves full of things she's accumulated over her long life. One shoe box is labelled 'spare glasses' and is full of what should be called 'old glasses from 20 years ago'. I'm taking them to be recycled soon.

I think it's an after-effect of the war years when everything people owned was precious, nothing was thrown away and things were repurposed. Even DM finds it all disheartening to open a cupboard to find it full of 'stuff'.

I've got as far as the shower this morning, it'll be clothes next.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's quite a nice morning here, the sun is shining and there is no sign of any rain yet. I am not feeling very great though as I had an extremely difficult visit from my friend yesterday. Unfortunately she is high again with her bipolar and this caused her to say some very harsh and hurtful things to me which have broken my heart to be honest. Since she left I am very weepy and don't really know how to get over it.

Lilly continues to be a pain in the posterior as well. She has very little empathy or compassion and says things to get a reaction. I am not good at dealing with this at the moment so I am just trying to avoid her which isn't easy in our little house.

Lee went for a talk about his new catering course last night and came back all excited about it and raring to go. It is great to see him so positive and looking towards the future. Steve said the college is set up really well for students who may need some extra support and they made him the best coffee he had ever tasted :).

I have a meeting with some senior mental health people this afternoon and I am very anxious about it. I don't know what they want from me so I will just have to worry and wait.

Sorry this is such a moany post, I try to be positive but sometimes I just can't. Hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Dumpling, I'm sorry you were so upset by your friend. I hope your meeting goes ok.

TA, happy plant shopping, it's not cheap is it refurbishing a garden, we've spent a fortune but I'm not really complaining because it looks so much better. we've decided not to replace the tired patio, Steve has been lifting and replacing the existing ones so that they are level and it looks much better. I would love one with modern slabs but can't justify the cost.

Steve slept most of the day while he was having his treatment but he feels a bit better today. I was shattered too, having driven Ziggy to London and then returned straight away.

I need to make some appointments today and go to Bedford to bank a cheque - the Post Office doesn't take our bank stuff and all the local branches have closed. Steve's chemo appointment isn't till 4 today.
