Martgage Application - Full Address History?

I've been moving around a lot recently and subsequently I've rented at 6 addresses in the last 5 years, and for some of those I was not on the electoral register. Do I need to include all of these addresses on a mortgage application, even the ones for which I was not on the register?

The reason I'm asking is that I recently ordered a credit report on Equifax, which gave me a good score in every category except Electoral Register, because I was not on the register during my two previous addresses. Subsequently it only considered me to have ever been on the electoral register for 2 years (due to my current address). I am on the register now and have been for all my addresses except those two, but it only allowed me to enter two previous addresses. Interestingly Experian gave me a much better score, and it allowed me to enter up to 5. So when filling out a mortgage application, if there are a limited number of slots, should I only include past addresses for which I was on the register?

You enter all addresses you have lived at, failure to do so is mortgage fraud, and you don't want that or a CIFAS marker....

  • What if they only require up to two previous addresses on the application?

They will ask you for addresses covering a certain timeframe, so they go on the application, in the box for further information or in a covering letter.

Lenders will want a minimum of your last 3 years address history, some will want up to 5 years.
Even if you weren’t on the electoral register, you must still input all the addresses. You will still have credit records at these addresses without the electoral register.

  • Fair enough. I'm just worried that it might appear that I have a bad credit score if I wasn't on the register the period they ask for. But I guess like @MovingForwards said I could explain the situation in a cover letter or the like.

Use a broker, they can place your case with a lender that isn’t too fussed about whether you’re on the electoral register or not.

For some lenders it could be a deal breaker, others won’t care as long as your credit file meets their internal score.

One thing that more people need to realise is that the lenders dont care in any way what your credit score is with experian or equifax. They are only interested in the hard data and will create their own score with this data.
If you have credit and have paid it back and changed your addresses as you moved then its unlikely that not being on electoral register will make a difference. If you have nothing then it might.

Worst thing you can do is to try fudge the data to match what you think they want to hear. Just give the data to your broker and he/she can figure out which lenders will care about it and which ones wont
