O/S Daily Monday 24 June 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright and sunny start to the day - but rain possible this afternoon, could be a bit stormy.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Lunch yesterday was a change from a full roast, menfolk requested pie with mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy - was lovely and much easier and quicker than a full roast. Tonight we'll be having pork steaks, mash, LO veg and gravy.
We went to visit DH's grandad - we went early and good job we did as on the way back the traffic going towards his was horrendous (he lives coastal and its a very popular area). He's in his 90s and still lives in his own house, cooks for himself still quite able bodied, he was pleased to see us.
We spent the afternoon chilling and watching catch up tv - did a few jobs etc.
Back to work today - it was quiet on Saturday so have no idea what to expect.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
After two lovely dry days with some sunshine it's back to rain and a stiff breeze today, although it is still quite warm.
No washing to do, I think I washed everything that wasn't nailed down over the weekend. The living room could do with dusting but that can wait until Friday.
I met DD for lunch in Glasgow yesterday, it was lovely and chilled, the sunshine certainly put everyone in a good mood. Sat in the garden for a while, the son of my next door neighbour builds decks so I asked him for a quote - I will get this house and garden finished!
Right, off for a swim!
Hugs to the poorlies and carers. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's looking decidedly grim out there, so confirmation of the weatherman's prediction I think - rain and thunderstorms by lunchtime!
Yesterday's Communion Service was lovely and DGD looked beautiful. As did all the little girls and none of them put a foot wrong throughout. Onwards to the celebration party afterwards which was an ordeal but I won't go into the why's and wherefore's of that.
BLACKCATS it was kind of you to mention the book. I have looked it up on Ama*on and the reviews are very good. I think I may send off for it as it will do me good to realise other people go through the same emotions after a bereavement as me and I am not going mad.
If I can beat the rain this morning I plan on the bus ride to Ilkley for the nearest M & S food. Salad, fruit and fish stocks are low and I think it's worth paying a bit more for the quality of theirs. Plus it's a pleasant run out!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning, a bit grey and muggy here. We ate forecast a possible storm later.
Had a good day yesterday, catching up with my friend and then went out to buy ant powder. Yes, my shopping is THAT exciting.
DS decided to bake biscuits after I went to bed, I've nearly finished the washing up.
No fascinating plans today, a pootling day I think, I'm feeling a bit tired, have not slept as well for a couple of nights but I think I have built up some reserve of sleep, a few months ago this woukd have wiped me out.
Like nmlc, we didn't have a Sunday roast, I made southrtn-fried chicken with chips and salads. By the time I served up though, I wasn't very hungry. I am now though so I'm going to sample the biscuits.
Good to see Poppy here yesterday.
Wishing everyone s good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Nice bright day here again we are due storms tomorrow I think yesterday was very muggy and hot the air needs clearing.
Off to work today and the noisy Monday group its always a busy day Mondays so the time does go quickly.
I cooked a chicken yesterday evening so that will be dinner tonight and tomorrow, might do Jackets and salad tonight and some low cal chips for tomorrow.
Ebay parcels to post tonight and I will do a wash and have a sweep through kitchen.
Have good days all xx
Happy Birthday To Mean Marie hope you have a lovely day xx (my cake smiley wont work !!)0 -
Good morning all

It's a grey old day here today not raining yet but its threatening it.
I had a lovely chilled weekend, not a lot achieved bar everything that I could collect getting washed and line dried.
Going into planning mode as well as my American friend is here for a few days at the end of July so I was booking trains for her to get here from London. In the process I discovered some very annoying news that the west coast line will be closed at my station for 16 days which will really scuper most of my work trips. The offer of bus transfers really aren't cutting the mustard as the reason I use trains so much is to avoid the god awful motorway network round here. Anyway anyone planning trips on the London to Scotland line or the reverse need to check they wont be affected I believe they will stop at Crewe then bus on to Preston for the rest of the trip to Scotland....nightmare.
Anyway life will go on and I will find some alternatives no doubt. Today I have a new course to prep for tomorrow and a long list of stuff to book including the dentist following a big chunk of tooth falling out yesterday whilst chewing aa peppa pig sweet
I'm falling apart :rotfl:
So best get on it have a great day all0 -
Holly Harvey, I hope you are managing to get online and I hope you are doing ok.
Poppy nice to see you again.
Nelski, ouch, that reminds me I must book a check up. I'm not looking forward to it as my dentist has left, she was very abrupt but oh so good with the teeth.
I also has a letter to book a smear test as well so that is on the agenda although maybe not today because it's a chemo day for Steve so we'll be out for most of it. I'll drop him off then shoot down the M11 to Laura's to drop Ziggy off, I was hoping she would be working from home and I'd see her fleetingly but she won't be there. Then back to the hospital to wait for Steve's treatment to be finished.0 -
Good morning chums and a warm and sunny day forecast its 22c already and I just popped a quick wash on the line .Getting up at 5.30 to take DGS Henry to work during the week means I am getting a lot more done before it gets too hot .Yesterday I decided to get the nets done and cleaned the inside of the windows ,blimey they were mucky to say the least but all done and rehung and snowy white again.I also decluttered a big bag of bank statements for DD to take to work and shred in the industrial shredder she has at work. Can't believe how much paper junk there was in my study. Still all nice and neat again now. Hope everyone has a good monday and the poorlies and downcast feel better soon .
I have bought a nice card for my youngest DGD who moves into her first home this Friday and I will find out what she needs for a housewarming present .
Right I am in need of some coffee so I'm off
Take care chums and enjoy what the day brings

Morning all,
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and enjoyed some of the more positive weather.
It was nice and sunny here for most of the time which meant the windows were open to get a breeze through but I noticed quite a lot of flies coming in for some reason. Is that just me? Anyway, my weekend was deliberately quiet and to myself. Gym, yoga, supermarket, driving range, cooking, baking, meal prep, watched sport, played the xbox with my mates, tidied the house, renewed my car insurance (saving a few £ p/m), threw out some old clothes, organised my wardrobe and some other things off my to-do list. Just what the doctor ordered.
Typical Monday for me today. Work 7.45-6.30, go to the gym for an hour then yoga for 90 mins. Pretty much home to bed from there.
Friday was a NSD taking me to 11 for the month.0 -
Morning all.
Dark clouds are lingering outside though it's muggy.
My day yesterday was quiet though I was gently productive. I'm doing an unobtrusive declutter of DM's stuff, like three old broken light bulbs, bottles of out of date medicine etc. There is a drawer full of ancient bottles of exotic spices which I'm itching to sort out, most are over 20 years old.
Last night I did my first online supermarket delivery order! It's all heavy or bulky household stuff. Does anyone tip the driver? Is it expected?
As part of my efforts to not vegetate I've booked an evening talk about Glasgow and tea culture. Hopefully more interesting than it sounds. I've also been invited to another friends' house for coffee on Wednesday.
DM spent the day in bed again yesterday apart from going to the loo once or twice. I'm trying to tempt her to eat with little tiny portions of food - yesterday she 'enjoyed' one sliced strawberry with two cherries. She spent a long time grumbling about the state of politics in the UK so she's still interested in what's happening. This morning she's asked for a bucket as she feels sick.
Now to start my day, I hope those who are struggling get help or better. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We're off to Citizens Advice today about Steve's job.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0
