You can buy these little strongly scented tablet things to put in the wash for the express purpose of fragrancing it.
They're made by C*mfort, or Len*r, one of the big names. I once had a sample pack. They'll be with detergents etc in the shops.

I like you OP am a laundry scent addict. I love that strong old fashioned stench of washing powder & laundry detergents seem to be gettting weaker.

I use the gold one mentioned above and the blue perfume one - also mentioned above.
I pop a capful of zoflora linen in with the fabric softener too.
I use those in wash scents in the main wash in addition to Ariel pods or the surf scented ones for smelly clothes (I figured they’d be stronger).

It gets an ok result, but not that old fashioned washing powder smell :-(

I use Ariel powder to wash whites and I think it definitively has an old fashioned washing powder smell, still smells the same as my 70s/80s childhood. I find the smell comforting.

I don’t think liquid or gel etc have the same smell.

I find tucking opened bars of a nice smelling soap into my bedroom drawers and into the airing cupboard plus my closet leaves a nice lingering smell. I use dove but of course just use one you like the smell of!
