O/S Daily Saturday 22 June 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but dry day is forecast.
We're enjoying first cuppas, DH is watching catch up tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my porridge whilst on here, I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was chicken kievs, chips/jacket potato and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight we're going to meet up with bro and SIL at mum and dad's for a bbq, DS1 is going to his mate's for a bbq too.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted after getting to the SM first thing and doing the food shopping and getting home at 9.05am to put it away. Again I did seem to spend the day being busy but feeling that I hadn't got much to show for my effort but then I sat down with my list and realised I'd got it done as I ticked the various jobs off the list! I need to pick up a couple of desserts to take to mum's later - this wasn't arranged until last night and it was too late to start making anything then, and I'm working this morning. So we'll have to make do with bought desserts.
This afternoon before we go to the bbq, I'll be chilling for a while.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A lovely sunny start for us. Another one forecast for tomorrow and then the rain will be back overnight Sunday. Do we really need any more!
Yesterday's doc's appointment wasn't too frightening but bloods need repeating in 3 months. He was running late and not the most approachable doctor I have come across so my problematic legs never got mentioned. I will have to make a separate appointment when I can face it.
I should have come straight home afterwards to start the Friday Tidy but I thought s*d it. Too nice a day to spend it cleaning so I got the bus onwards to Otley for a browse of the cs and market. Ye olde everything is 20p shop came up trumps again! He had just got a delivery of assorted Tesco gift bags which were selling like hot cakes as you can imagine. I got a lovely assortment to add to what's left of the last batch I got there. I just got home to be met by DS and Sky, now 3 months old, who were stopping off after a walk on the moors. That dog is still crackers and loves biting toes - ouch.
I want to pop down town early doors this morning to collect a reserved item from Argos and then I suppose I had better come back and clean the kitchen and bathroom. Maybe this afternoon I will enjoy the sunshine reading my book in the garden.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Have a lovely break NAN and I'm sorry the news wasn't better for you both yesterday. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning
Another beautiful day here. Looks like this is summer so I will be making the most of it and having a good old session chatting to the chillies the poor loves need the sun as much as I do
Going to do a first thing trip to Asda soon as I really fancy a big salad with some chicken.
Its good to be home but the house really needs some serious attention but the sun ....rare as it is atm will be taking priority I can do a few wash loads though at least.
A friend is coming over this afternoon so I plan to cobble together an afternoon tea for us so i'll make some sandwiches, scones and a lemon drizzle cake. I'll even cut them into little oblongs...thinking my hotel week has addled my brain
nan enjoy your break you deserve it
TA 20p gift bags wow I pay fortune for mine! Glad the tests were OK for 3 months
Have a lovely sun drenched day everyone0 -
Good morning, we have a beautiful blue sky with little wisps of cloud here, a treat!
I've got one wash load on the line, another spinning - that was hand washing - and more to go in. I will run out of line space soon, the big rack can go outside.
I did quite a lot yesterday but failed to do bathroom cleaning because the garden was calling me so had better do that today.
OH will shop today, he has a voucher for t*sco, I don't really nneed to go out. The furthest I've been in 10 days is the corner shop for a bottle of wine as far as I can remember. I have enough to keep me busy here.
I put birdseed and crumbs out, it has all gone -two magpies and that hugely fat pigeon.
Hope everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Lovely and sunny this morning, 2 loads of washing already out and a 3rd in doing its stuff.
I had a very pleasant evening yesterday in Glasgow with work colleagues for our end of term outing, lovely meal with a couple of refreshing G&Ts. I went by train, pleased to report they were all on time and I was home for 10.
I've a list as long as your arm for things to get done today, mainly to tidy the garden - need to fight with the strimmer, will probably end up buying a new one again!
Have a good holiday Nanny!
Happy Weekend all, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks.
Sunny here too! Yesterday turned into a lovely day, first for many a day.
My trip to the Govan Stones was really enjoyable. My friend and I arrived an hour too early so sought out a wee cafe for a coffee and blether. :j The stones were beautiful, most from 9th century and the hog-back ones simply stunning. I felt refreshed after the outing so we are going to try to do something similar more often. DM stayed in bed whilst I was out (no change there) and I left a flask of tea and a tray of salads and sandwiches for her. Tea untouched and not much eaten from the tray. Think she drank some Ensure.
This morning I'm doing a small shop and a trip to the tip. This afternoon I'll get out as DM's crossword buddy is coming to visit.
Thoughts to all those struggling - happy Saturday to all.0 -
Good morning, it's a fine and sunny one here.
You seem to have had a good day yesterday TA, those gift bags were a bargain.
I went to Metrocentre, and had a good browse. I managed to get a birthday present for the friend who is difficult to buy for, and some moth repelling sachets in Lakeland, whoo hoo, also pushed the boat out and bought a new potato peeler (I can't peel with a knife)
Went into T* Maxx and spent ages, I love that shop. Unusually, I didn't look at the clothes and handbags, it was the household stuff.
I was home by just after 3pm, then out again at 8 to visit a friend. So that was yesterday.
Today, someone is coming to take the gas fire apart, give it a good clean, and (hopefully) it will work better. We hardly ever use it, but it might as well work properly.
AOD, we feed the birds and often jackdaws scoff the lot, but we love to watch them.
Hope you enjoy your salad Nelski, and you have a good time at the bbq NMLC.
I've got some sewing to do, and the usual jobs.
Glad to see you back Nanny.
Have good days and take care folks xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Sunny here at the moment rain and thunder forecast tomorrow, Beano's had two walks and Steve is locking boats through as we are moored near Midgham lock. The washing machine is on and I'm going to pick some more elderfower heads later as the last lot of cordial was delicious and is disappearing fast.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all
Lovely bright day here so I have my work clothes in the wm and will hang them out after, I have a load of towels to go in next and then OH work clothes can go in.
Need to shop today but Im going to go back to meal planning and sticking to a list, our shopping has been creeping up lately and there are only two of us so its got to stop, OH is particularly bad as he buys something if he fancies it and then it sits in the fridge for ages !!
Weighed myself this morning and another 2lb gone ! I am very pleased that its slowly coming off I want to do another 12lb before my holiday which will then take my total loss to 2st, fingers crossed !
We will probably bbq tonight so I will get some pork fillet to marinade as its low fat and quite cheap too, will get a chicken for a couple of meals in the week as well.
Nan I hope you have a lovely break away xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Lovely day here too. So the sun comes out and prompts me to start a Christmas knitting project. No logic there but I'm looking forward to trying to create a home made gift. Going to try and do some more sorting out and de-cluttering later. A little bit of ironing but that might wait til tomorrow.0

Morning all! Lovely and sunny here [got back abut nine thirty last night] so have spent some time de-weeding this morning and taking the sideshoots off the tomatoes. Plants have not suffered much in my absence, although that's probably down to the weather doing the watering...I have missed my beautifully comfortable bed, the one I've been sleeping on has buses running through the night with a side order of cramp.
Hvae been taking father to radiotherapy every day and will do that agin next week, sister has been working because she's had a lot fo time off. Father is understandably, angry and grumpy and in pain but meds have picked up his eating so hopefully he'll start putting some meat on his not inconsiderable frame. Arguments about doing things that he would normally do but can't are the order of the day, again, completely understandable.
Off out later for a friends birthday, he was good during my illness so a thank you is in order...
Nelski, your work life sounds interesting to say the least, that poor teacher! Enjoy your afternoon tea lady
Holly, I always used to take a book with me if I went somewhere on my own, I knew I'd have something to do so wouldn't have to intereact with anyone if I didn't want to. It did result in a lot of people asking me what I was reading though. TA, yes, mention your legs, no need to put up with something if something can be done! dumpling, has your doc got a care team? My father has a person visiting to make improvements to the house and for him regarding mobility, so might be worth asking there. And have you applied for PIP? Blackcats, much useful information there, I think my ex-work will be going down the same route [not that I'm bothered] but I won't be in a hurry to say bye bye on purpose. AOD, are you turning into a Disney Snow White? Your feathered friends may start cleaning the house if you're lucky
Enjoy your break nan, you need one, hoping for good news in November... and congrats on the weight loss RR, I haven't weighed for a week, can't get to the place, returing too late from the hopsital. Gers, don't forget to take care of yourself too, and your mother sounds as if she could be on the slipery slope back to inaction. Are there any day centers where she could go? Hope everyone is having a lovely sun filled weekend...
Seriously sunny Saturday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
