Mortgage Application - Use of Middle Name Issue?

Options
Morning All,

I have a query please if someone can help me.

I have a middle name that I don't use. It isn't on my bank account, driving licence or passport, but I believe it is on my birth certificate.

I have checked Experian and Equifax and my past account I have not used it. A few months ago I checked checkmyfile and I believe some accounts had my First name, middle name and surname listed.

I haven't used the middle name in years. I believe some old accounts may list the full name, but as mentioned, from my file it looks like my name on the accounts is just my first and last name.

When making an application for a mortgage do I have to declare my full name including my middle name, even though it isn't on my passport, driving licence or bank account or any other statements?

Would this not potentially bring up a different credit report if I used my full name, rather than just my first and last name?

Credit report is absolutely fine, no issues are on it - this is for my first and last name. Could there be another report that has different data with my first, middle and last name?

Thanks

State only what is on your passport & driving licence.

We all (brokers, lenders, solicitors) work from these documents so we all need to ensure we use the official name from them.

Agree with Kingstreet, whatever is on official documents and the electoral roll is what you should use.

I am the other way round in that I am known by middle name and for a time had accounts in that name until I made an application for a loan using my full name which caused chaos and nearly lead to the application being declined!

I have now changed all my accounts to show my full name and the electoral roll to include my first name to avoid this happening again as at the time my passport and DL showed my full name.

The electoral roll has my full name xx, but my driving licence and passport only has xx

What should I declare when making the application?

    Many thanks

Only what is on your official documents as you will use them to prove your identity to lender, broker, solicitor etc.

Thanks. I was mindful of the bank checking my report and seeing I was registered on the electoral roll with my full name and then questioning why it wasn't in my passport etc and whether it would cause hassle.
  • The lender may well question the middle name, just to make sure their records are correct - but just phone up and get a note stuck on saying "On electoral roll as X, however official documents are all Y, hence purchasing as Y" and that'll be fine.

Worst thing is when we query a middle name. The customer says their middle name but doesn't explain why it was left out originally. We change it... then the solicitors come back and say it doesn't match their documents, so they don't want it... then we have to change it back to what it was in the first place!

I'm in a similar situation to you - I have a middle name that's on my driving licence/ER/most accounts, but not passport (yet). So I've got to make sure whatever I apply with is what's sent over to sols!

Just an FYI, it’s probably over-cautious but I would edit your post above to remove your full name. Some unscrupulous individuals could use it and link it to other things you may have posted previously/ in the future to steal your identity- especially as posts on this site are stored, and are visible, for years!
