Credit card limit increase

Hi all

We have recently applied for a mortgage and are waiting for it to be processed etc, already had AIP through broker so assuming a hard search was done.

I have browsed these forums and a piece of advice given was not to apply for new credit after applying for a mortgage. My husband's credit card company has just written to him after we applied for the mortgage and increased his limit without asking! Obviously he will not be utilising it but will this show up as a hard credit search or an additional line of credit to lenders? Could it potentially jeapordise our mortgage application?

Thanks once again in advance for any advice

    It's not a hard search.

Generally, it will be seen as a positive. However, they will have given him the right to opt out if he doesn't want it.

That's great news, thank you. They did give him the option but only after it had already been applied (something along the lines of if you don't want the increase please contact us.) He's really good with the credit card and only opened it to increase credit score as he's from another country and not eligible to go on the electoral roll yet so tends to pay it off each month.

Thank you for your reply, i think paranoia is setting in with me and i am searching for any little thing that could go wrong, irony being if something does go wrong it'll probably be something I haven't thought of lol.

    Thanks again

That would have been before it was applied - they need to give you 30 days to reject it before they apply it.

The only thing to avoid is brand new lines of credit. And of course, missing payments or defaulting and so on.

Ah Ok, he probably told me late. Good to know no harm done! Thanks again
