Hi, I was advised to opt out of SERPS approximately 32 years ago when i started my personal pension. I am now constantly being contacted by companies saying that i am owed money because i opted out, is this true or is it some sort of scam?

Until 1988, people could only contract out if they were members of a defined benefit occupational pension scheme. In 1988, the government extended this to defined contribution or money purchase occupational schemes and personal pensions.
How old were you in 1988? Are you male or female?
