Tax year overview and tax calculation 2018-2019

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but was looking for some help/advice. My husband and I have been accepted for a mortgage and they have requested his tax year overview and calculation documents for the past 2 years which we have given them. However the tax year overview for this year is £153 less than the tax calculation?!?!? Apparently the bank cannot accept this as the figures need to be the same. The amount on the tax year overview is the amount that HMRC refunded my husband for over paid tax. I was wondering whether anyone had experienced this and how to amend it? Or does anyone know the reason for it? I know that ringing and speaking to HMRC is the best option but they are not always necessarily helpful so would like to ring them with a bit of knowledge of what has happened.

Thanks, Laura :p

HMRC are not too bad in our experience.
    Do you have an accountant?
Do you have a mortgage broker? This would be the sort of thing where we would be asking if a letter explaining from the accountant/applicant would resolve the issue.

  • We have experienced a lot of problems with HMRC and them not being too helpful after my husbands accountant ballsed his tax return up one year so therefore we don't have an accountant as the one we had was very slack and didn't do much for us so my husband went back to doing it for himself. No we don't have a broker we went through my husbands bank for the mortgage, we have a contact name and number for someone there but she said she was unsure why there were two different figures.

She does not need to understand why the figures are different - that is not really her job, she needs to speak to the underwriter and find out what you can provide to get it through.

This is one of those cases where you could probably have done with a broker... Not much use now though I suppose. I think you are in for some fun and games for the next week or 2. You should get there, but I think you will be banging your head against a few walls in the process.

Well thats made me look a bit daft! You could have at least padded it out and made it look like you had to make a few calls :-P

Good to hear it was all easily sorted.

At least when I said HMRC are sometimes ok, that makes me look like I know what I am talking about a little bit.
