DON't BUY ARGOS RESERVATION NUMBERS ON EBAY!!!

I had been frantically trying to get hold of one of the must have toys this year and had resorted to Ebay when I found loads of people SELLING argos reservation numbers for the item I was after!! I found one for a store near me, being sold by somebody hundreds of miles away. I was so infuriated that I rang the argos store and spoke to the branch manager and explained the situation to him. Long story short I took a copy of the ebay listing with me and they agreed to transfer the reseveration to me and so I was able to buy the much wanted item there and then after weeks of trekking round shops and surfing the net. If you find yourself in a similar situation DO NOT buy the number off ebay. Call the store and tell them. They are aware this is a big problem and will listen. Good Luck! :D

how did they get trace the correct reservation?
    Yes Your Dukeiness :D
  • Apparently there were a total of three in stock and he could tell from his system that all three had been reserved by the same person at the same time. The reservation was due to expire in the next couple of hours and I said I didn't mind coming back after expiry if he could ensure he would hold one for me, but he took decision it was unlikely they would be collected...

I've noticed more an more of these appearing on the 'bay, and also hearing a lot of people have done exactly as yourself, taken the proof that the reservation is "false" and is being sold on at a premium.

A lot of stores are honouring the customer stood in front of them, rather than the chancer with the ebay account. It will be interesting to see the chancers feedback when their buyer turns up with an unfulfillable reservation.

    Good work OP!

With multiple reservations I can see the argument, but I have in the past reserved an item in a store several hundred miles away, as I new I would be passing there in the next day or so.

Never even knew people sold such things on ebay, but I suppose people will sell anything

In other words, people will buy anything!

I would hope that Argos's systems are clever enough that, when the reservation is transferred to a new name, the original person (eBayer) is informed of their cancellation and therefore forced to remove their listing.

I'd be furious if I'd bought a reservation only to find it unfulfillable!

Plenty of example listings around at the moment

There is a LOT of potential for auction wrecking with these lot - I've just spoken to the Argos near Man Utd's ground who have confirmed that ebay reservations are being cancelled, and there are a number of unhappy eBay buyers turning up with an expired reservation code, for a product that has already been sold.

On the subject of Wii's - one of my young cousins has said to his mum, and I quote - "Tell santa not to bring me a Wii, I want a mountain bike instead, as all the kids at school who have Wii are fat, and I dont want to be fat"

To keep going off topic I think the Wii is the best. I have never really got into games (mid 40's probably explains that) but it is a lot of fun and for our 3 year old her fine motor skills have come on a treat....and she beats me especially in the boxing and she gets a great workout doing it....lol
