Present ideas for 7 year old boys.

No toys, no books as they get loads and never play with them!

We had considered adopting an animal at a zoo, but it's getting expensive at £50 a year. Budget is no more than £30 each.

One lives in Yorkshire

Anything annual membership, or prepaid days out, cinema season ticket is what were considering.

Any other ideas?

  • ok then I always have these boy problems...

how about a susbscription to beano / dandy?

other than that, a school set from a charity for africa ( like from oxfam unwrapped or worldgifts) You can buy a pot of pencils to go with as well so they have something.

    errrrrrrr

    boys are hard aren't they?

One already has an MP3 player (down to a grandmother who spoils him and hasn't a clue about present buying)- how many 7 year olds are into music? I know I wasn't and neither is he. He can't download tunes to it, but it makes a good (but expensive) "pretend communicator" when he is playing Doctor Who, Star Wars etc!

I know you said no toys but ELC have some great stuff in their older range which I have been very impressed with and which are a bit out of the ordinary. They have a 'moon in your room' moon phase light that you pop on the wall and set to the real moon. Lots of kits and science stuff too. It's in a new section on their site for 5-10 year olds.

Get some Marvins magic kits. Abracadabra impress your friends! You can buy them one at a time in Toys r Us, (feeling rich) Hamleys sell the whole range and they provide a magician to show you how to work the trick.
My lad was hooked from age 5, he's 13 now and still got them and they still work.

How about a kit to make something eg model or make your own clock. These are easier than they sound. Check out google for boys craft kits.

I always favored Lego kits for my boys they played with them for years and now they are married I still have their lego ready for grandchildren.

Do they go to any clubs or have any hobbies that have expenses - football, horses etc - maybe you could offer to pay for an item of kit that would normally be an issue, a special trip or even a terms worth of fees.

My eldest (6.5) does football every week - whilst we can cover the every day costs, I know he'd love the chance to go to one of the additional holiday courses (they tend to average about £10 a day, but, with two more children to consider, are always out of our price range).

    :)

I have 2 lads aged 5 and 7. We have got things this year from yellowmoon website including horrible science and horrible history kits/jigsaws. Mine like CDs they can listen to in bed at night and you can get horrible science/history CDs plus Horrid Henry stories. These CDs can also be downloaded onto a MP3 player for journeys.
Tickets - local pantomimes? The local amateur ones are cheaper for us and always very good. Do local football stadium have backstage tours?
  • I have just bought this stuff of https://www.hawkin.com its called Gelli Baff you put the powder in the bath and it turns the water into various coloured slime, they play in it and then you add another powder and it turns back to water!
