Extra Charges applied after paying Council Tax bailiffs

Hi, I had a debt with the council tax who sent the debt off to Rossendales after two months... Long story but I paid them the correct amount but even after I paid them their correct amount, Rossendales have still applied another £349 after having paid the correct debt! They have sent me a threatening letter to me saying they'll apply another £110 for any removal of goods...

I need advice on this as surely having paid the debt, they can not apply this amount after and then threaten me?

Presumably you have a receipt from when you settled the balance? What do they say these charges relate to, presumably they believe the debt wasn't settled in full or there have been further arrears passed to them.

I would ask for them for a breakdown of costs to ascertain what these no charges relate to.

It depends what you paid and at what point you paid it. There's not enough information in your original post to give an answer.

When you say you 'paid the correct amount' - what amount did you pay, when did you pay it and who did you pay it to.

What I would suspect is that you've simply paid the council tax balance after it's been sent to the enforcement agent and you'd not paid the £75 fee so it's spiraled from that.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
