Defaults and DCAs - can anyone help??

Does anyone know the correct process. I have been told that a default notice must be served before it can be passed to a DCA due to a data breach. Is this correct??
I have today recieved a letter from Mercers on behalf on Barclaycard who have said that they will send a doorstep debt collector if i dont pay. Obviously this is very worrying.
Any advice??

Also received a default from Egg. They have already suggested that if a DMP is agreed then it will stay in-house and not farmed out to a DCA. Not sure how true that is, but Egg how been pretty sympathetic so far.0

if a door step collector does arrive ( which they most probably wont, they are just trying to scare you) you can refuse to speak to them. dont answer they're questions as they are trying to establish that you are the person they are after. You can ask them to leave and if they dont then you can call the police and get them to be removed for trespassing. Only baliffs appointed by a court can legally do a door step collection0

Ok thanks.
Anyone know about the correct default/DCA process??0 -
A default can be issued if you fail to make your repayments according to the contractual terms. Unless you pay off then the default can be entered on your credit record which will be trashed for 6 years.
A creditor can pass your debt on to another company with or without a default or indeed for a whole lot of reasons.
In general, most creditors eventually pass bad debts to debt collectors or sell them.
Debt collectors have no right of entry to your home or indeed have no powers at all. If they come to your home (and thats fairly unlikely) just tell them to go away.0 -
debt collectors differ from balliffs dont they0

also the general jist im getting from CCCS is that creditors are more likely to accept a repayment plan if you have defaulted and its with a DCA.0

Still very worried about the door step collector. Is this unlikely to happen??0
