PPI claim for mum's estate?

Options
Hi,

I would like to figure out if a PPI claim for my mum's estate is likely to be worthwhile. Is the effort of making one or more claims likely to produce a reasonable return?

Mum had two Barclaycards: Visa & Mastercard, two store cards: M&S & House of Fraser, and two subscriptions to card protection. Card protection: monthly subscription services that assist folk to cancel a number of cards with one call in the event of card loss.

Mum typically paid off any card balance each month, and never built up a significant balance. She never had a loan that I know of. At least, not one during the 'PPI years'.

I don't actually know if any of the cards included PPI, or not. The card protection subscriptions probably did.

Can anyone please provide an indication for the amount PPI claims might produce. A ball park figure would be helpful.

Many thanks,
David

What would be your grounds for saying she didnt need PPI? Was she working? If not, that might be one.
  • Hi,

Mum was retired and had a very good pension. She would not have needed PPI.

    Many thanks,

I made a claim for my mother's estate and got back over £2K, so it was worth it in our case. I think sellers of PPI were keen to target older people even though, as in our mothers' cases, they didn't need it.. Good luck if you go ahead .

PPI is not paid if you card is cleared in full every month, you can have it, but not pay it - if she paid off the cards then she paid no PPI. If there were months that she didn't clear it, just look on the statements.

CPP is not PPI, the refund scheme for that is long closed

Banks etc did not pay commission to staff for PPI, there was no incentive for them to target anyone, some people quite willingly accept the recommendation to have it, just as they did with CPP etc

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Very helpful, thank you.

First consideration would be whether your Mother actually had PPI. If not, no refund at all will ever be forthcoming. Second consideration is how much PPI (assuming she had it) she actually paid. Third consideration is how long ago the PPI was paid (if it was) since interest (at 8% simple) can be considerable.

Basically, no one here can tell you whether a complaint (not claim) will be worthwhile without knowledge of the above considerations.

While that is a good complaint reason, it's also a reason she would have refused the insurance.

You first need to establish if she had any PPI.So don't be jumping the gun..
