Hi, I brought a DVD recorder from Misco about 8 months ago, I sent them an E-mail because its not been working right for the last few months and got the following reply:
In reply to your email.
The warranty is direct with the manufactures. The will go through some trouble shooting with you, to determine the fault. Once this has been completed, they will advise you on the repair or replacement of the device.
The contact no Liton 02073652401. Do ensure that you have the serial no to hand and are with the device, prior to contacting them.I dont think this is right as I purchased it from them and shouldnt have to mess about with the manafacturer, has anyone else been in a similar situation and sent a well worded letter or e-mail, if so it would be appreciated if I can use it as a template as i'm not sure what to say.
Thanks for reading

Thats different from 8 months,
Doesn't the Sale of Goods Act apply in this case?
See http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html and in particular
Q2. Do I only have rights for 30 (or some other figure) days after purchase?
No. Depending on circumstances, you might be too late to have all your money back after this time, but the trader will still be liable for any breaches of contract, such as the goods being faulty. In fact, the trader could be liable to compensate you for up to six years.0 -
You could send it back to Misco but they will only send it on to Liteon anyway for repair0
-
As the others have said your warrinty is with misco but to save your self time and trouble deal with liton directly.0

Regardless of 8 months or 2 weeks, There is no "warranty" with Misco. Manufacturers warranties are additonal to, not in place of the law. The contract is still with Misco - Retailers cannot arbitrarily absolve themselves of responsibility, however you decide which is easier for you - to send it to Misco who will forward it on - or direct to manufacturers . If you send it to Misco they re obliged to deal with it even if only to pass it to Liteon.

Agreed the responsibility is with misco BUT they are not experts on if the machine is faulty and what they are doing is getting the manufacturer to firstly see if the customer is doing some thing wrong and hence diagnose the fault. It appears if the unit is faulty the manufacturer will repair or replace.
This may not be miscos policy but what the manufacture asks for.
eg i am aware that hoover cleaners have a card in the box saying if a fault develops then please contact them and not the retailer.
I personally dont see the problem with this aproach you still get the unit fixed or replaced, so whats the big deal??"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0
