PRA Group - Not a demand for payment. Confused

Hi

Wondering if anybody else has ever had one of these.

I had an old payday loan that i defaulted on nearly 6 years ago (default cones off my file in october this year). I have started receiving monthly ‘statements’ from a company called pra group, stating i owe them this money. But, at the top of the statement it clearly states ‘ This is not a formal demand for payment’?

Are they saying they dont want me to pay them lol? Very confused.

Thanks for your help

It is what it is, a statement.

PRA are a debt purchasing company, they have bought your debt at some point, and are obliged to send a statement at least once every 6-12 months.

The next letter you receive may well be a demand for payment.

Or it could be that this has already been classed as an unenforceable debt. In which case, the next letter is likely to be an offer to settle at something like 50%.

If they do feel they can prove this debt then they have until October to start a court claim, assuming that you haven't acknowledged the debt by payment or in writing since Oct 2013.

Thanks. Will they need to send me a formal demand for payment before the issue a ccj? If they do im happy to set up a payment arrangement, last thing i want is them registering a ccj, ive had 6 years of this default on my account, i dont want another 6 with a ccj

    Hi,

You would receive Pre Action Protocol letter first. It would give you 30 days to reply to give you an option to pay in full, to set up a payment plan, or to set out your defence.
