O/S Daily Saturday 15th June 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy but now dry underfoot, we had a reasonable day yesterday - no rain and quite breezy to dry up the laying water, forecast for the coming days looks drier.

DH and myself are enjoying first cuppas, I'm showered and dressed, I've eaten my porridge whilst on here, I'm working this morning. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was steak and ale pie, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and vegetables. Tonight's dinner I need to have a think and decide what we'll be having. Tomorrow I have a joint of pork to do a roast.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive - I got the shopping done, home, shopping packed away, then sorted the Father's Day prezzies, wine and a photograph in a frame for each dad (we're lucky enough that both myself and DH still have both our parents alive). I had a bit of messing about with the photograph's as I needed to download them, then print them out, couldn't get them the right size, printer ran out of ink and wouldn't work, new ink bought, then printed ok until the bottom of the picture then blurred the colours so had to do a maintenance clean on the ink jets ............... it took several trips back to the SM for new ink which I didn't think I needed at the outset - otherwise I'd have just bought a multi pack of cartridges at the start ...... eventually I got there pictures right size, in the right size frame and no ink mess on the pics, they look good and I'm pleased with them. I got the ironing done also and a couple of admin things that needed looking at.

We'll be visiting the parents this afternoon and taking the Fathers' day prezzies, then chilling.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

The sun is shining and I'm enjoying that, even though yet more rain is forecast for later. If the rain dies hold off, I'll do a bit more weed clearing. Otherwise I have jobs indoors.

Yesterday was a strange day, I had little energy and ended up having a nap in tge afternoon, OH was tired too and he had a nap in the evening.

Today, other than getting more jobs done, I don't have much of a plan. OH will shop this morning. He was a bit cross last week because he went to the local T*sco which is meant to be a superstore but was tiny and he couldn't get what he wanted so is going further for a bigger store today.

Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I have just had to angle the blind a bit as the sun was blinding me!! I am not complaining though! Like AOD I think more rain is forecast later so not getting complacent! AOD emotional stress is more tiring than manual work so have another restful day if you are still feeling weary.

I might get a bit of tidying up done in the garden this morning whilst it's fine, legs permitting! This afternoon I am off with DD and the 2 younger DGDs on rather a longish drive. Middle DGD has been told she is now ready for pointes. She has been beyond excited all week! So we are off to the nearest dance shop which measures up for them. 20 miles away! They are quite expensive but I told her I would treat her to them. No doubt youngest will manage to wangle something out of me too!

Then we are going back to DD's for pizzas and the odd wine or two. DS, his lady and her DD are joining us so it will be a nice family get-together. "Margo" will no doubt be parading round in her pointes but she has been given strict instructions only to walk about in them to get used to them. Strictly no going up on her toes until she has had instruction!

A no serious cooking day for me, just a quick lunch before we go. I think I'll just defrost some lentil & bacon soup and have with a ham salad bagel.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely who need them. Take care all xx

Good morning, and thanks NMLC. You've been busy as usual, glad you got your pics right in the end - what a palaver.

AOD, I agree with TA, don't push yourself too hard.

TA, your Dgd has done so well!! Hope you enjoy your day.

It's sunny here for now, but rain is forecast.

We looked after Dgs yesterday while DD took Dgd for her hospital appointment. He is teething again, so wasn't his usual sunny self, not all the time anyway. He slept for a bit so we had some respite. We considered taking him out in the pushchair but the weather was uncertain. and there's no fun in walking about in heavy rain unless you have to.

Friends came round last night, we all enjoyed our chat.

Today I'm going to tidy a cupboard or two, and we are going to the caravan to tidy a bit as well. It's all exciting stuff !! sorry to be so boring.

Hope everyone has an ok day anyway.

    Take care folks xx

    Morning folks.

It's rainy and dull here as well as a little chilly. I'll be going out for the Saturday shop this morning and then setting things up for DM's crossword buddy. Once he's here I'll go out!

My laptop has been cleared of all work related stuff. For the first time since my Saturday job aged 15 years I'm not economically productive. :j

TA / AOD - I'm finding the emotional stress so much more difficult to cope with than any physical effect (apart from my dodgy hip and knee which gave me a really bad night).

My thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Saturday to everyone.

    Morning :)

Looking forward so much to doing a sum total of nothing today :j

Yesterday was as predicted manic from 4.30am till 10pm never stopped. Sales course was so good it was right back to basics as the group were apprentices so only just out of college. We had such a lovely day and by the end one girl kept calling me mum!
Dashed back home and got to my volunteer meeting with 5 mins to run before I had to start it. This morning my body is screaming out to stop so that is the plan :)

Only plans are to wash stuff from the week to turn around for next week and have some food. Yesterday I had the sum total of one tuna roll so my stomach is screaming out as well. Getting up off the couch and choosing something is way too much effort at the moment but as its chucking down again the wash will have to dry inside so will shift my lazy !!! soon and do the 2 planned events of the day:) Age uk call at 10 then its a full day declutter of the planner and some gorgeous chef gazing

    Have a lovely day all
  • OL a dilemma. I don't have the answer but I can appreciate youngest's argument. He is in effect subsidising Prodigal's victuals each week and it must annoy him. As for your argument - £50 of cigs versus quality food - I can well understand and agree with your annoyance.

Call me stupid but I am hoping the rain comes back here! I have been trying to psyche myself up to tackle the weeds in the front garden and pot up some plants that will be dying off if I don't do something with them soon! I have dosed up with painkillers but they haven't helped as yet and I don't relish the thoughts of bending etc. If it started to rain my problem would be solved!

    Take care all xx

  • Morning, OH is being moved to a care home locally this morning at social services request and expense as they are unable to put a care package in place just now. Its 20 miles less for me to drive to see him and just round the corner from where DD2 lives, so she will be able to keep an eye on him too.

The blackouts have stopped he has not had one for 2 days.........ever since he found out he was being discharged. A blog friend told me about her mother who also has black outs and they are affected by stress and anxiety and a couple of other things.........its a condition called cataplexy.

Bag packed ready for when I get the call from him to say he has arrived, he will need PJ's washing kit etc, cannot find the toilet bag, so a plastic bag will have to do for now.

No rain just now, but it does seem to be clouding over.

    Morning all

Sunny here for the moment but more rain due later, I have my work
clothes in the wash and will try to hang them out for a while but wont hold my breath !!

Need to go shopping today dont need too much but need some fresh salads and fruit and veg etc and some more fish.

I weighed myself this morning and i have lost a stone I am beyond please with myself, I promised myself a glass of wine when I had lost a stone but part of me is scared now that I will put weight back on if I have one !! I have at least another stone to go if not more but I am getting there slowly.

Need to think about dinner tonight, I have a few options in the freezer so will go and rummage in a while.

    Have good days all xx

Morning all...back from my travels to welsh wales for the weekend and I will be awol for a while longer on and off. Father is very not well, scans have shown there is something seriously wrong with him, so have got out my big girls pants and buckled them on tight.
Will be going back tomorrow night in preparation of planning appointments with him and my sister on Monday. On the plus side, he has already had some treatment and some steroids to make him eat more and that is starting to work, so hopefully he can put some weight back on to have something to bolster himself with.

Saw the lovely neighbours when I went back, they told me they never hear me, and I said, what? not even when I'm swearing like crazy and banging away with the switch trying to light the damn pilot light? Nope, apparently not...Good news for them :)
Have also ascertained when bin day is and have plans to start emptying some of the rubbish since what they eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve etc etc...

AOD, belated shoring up hugs, and have some current ones too, yep emotional stress can just wipe you out, and it affects people differently. I had an astounding lack of tolerance for other people's bullsh*t which has persisted to this day...PLus, any kind of confrontation would reduce me to tears, no matter what it was, and that lasted for months...TA, you could ask the Roger to de-weed? My sister bought this garden claw type thing and I had a play with that over this week, just twisting it round the weeds to get them up, worked a treat. Also saw my father had attached a long broom handle to a small garden fork so he didn't have to bend, that also works really well. Nelski, you enjoy doing nothing, you have earned it with the stress and good work you have done :) Holly, hope it's a bit better weather for you, instaed of sitting in the park in the rain, have you any big shopping mall type things where you could sit inside and people watch? csarina, I don't know whether that is good news for your OH or bad, so hugs either way...Speky, hope you got your tooth done, sounds horrible! Hugs and shrugs for everyone, hope this weekend is tolerable.
I'm not going to wotcha missings today since I am by default, one of them now...
Scintillating Saturday to all instead :)

I really hope that the care home does your OH some good and gives you some respite too.

HUGE congrats! :j That's so well done - not sure that one glass will do any harm so 'cheers'!

Been shopping and took stuff to the tip. I've been to three supermarkets as DM kept on texting me to buy more things. When I got back here I found her up and dressed, sitting in the front room chopping up fennel! I don't know whether I'm pleased or scared to death. :rotfl: She was, at least, wearing her fob which is a move forward.

Taff - so sorry to read about your DDad and hope that things work out OK for you all.
