If its a DD itll be covered by the DD guarantee.

I'm guessing you mean standing order? Why are Next refusing to budge? Are they struggling to trace the money?

If it's a direct debit, they can't refuse to return it under the DD Guarantee

If it's a direct debit, why would Next take a payment at all if the account had a zero balance?

Likely the same as with many credit cards, once the bill is produced that DD will be taken irrespective of what you do.

Anyway, if the account is clear then they must refund the balance. The bank should also refund if asked.

a direct debit is where the retailer takes the money...I have a number of un-cancelled DDs, but no money is taken as no money is due.
a standing order is something you control and you give the money to the retailer. This is something you need to cancel.

There's no reason they would say that at all.

Are you sure you haven't just made that up?
  • My bank says they can't help. I can't get to a someone with clout at Next . Interesting that they took the money when I had paid in full and closed account ...I 've no idea what to do next .

My bank says they can't help.
Given the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee, did they explain why they "can't help"?
