Stop an expensive bottle of whisky going off after I have opened it

My parents bought me a 30 year old bottle of whisky for my birthday and I opened it on the weekend as curiosity got the better of me.
What is the best way to keep it from going off or losing taste? It has a cork type stopper in the bottle if that makes any difference. Any help is appreciated as I don't want to drink it for the sake of it, would rather keep it for special occasions.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.

We have a couple of good bottles still going strong after 25 years - a tot or 2 for every new year!
Here's some advice:

Alcohol is a preservative, it won't go off.
You could drink it all, then YOU won't go off
