Saucepan problem...

  • If you want one that's going to last, you have to convince him that it doesn't have to match but when you have the whole set you won't need to buy another for the rest of your lives! I'd go for a John Lewis classic one - that's what I replaced my old pans with and they are fantastic. I still have a couple to replace. All in good time!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Ikea sell individual pans...I have one of their 365 range and it is pretty good.

I also have a set of 3 pans with glass lids from Marks and Spencer, they were cheap...about £12 if that and they are ok.

My favourite ones are my 2 Berndes ones...got them for a wedding pressie over 16 years ago and they are still like new....and yes, I do cook in them.

I've got a set of Berndes saucepans too, they're excellent. Cost a small fortune, but like you say they last and last. I use mine (the two smaller ones anyway) daily. Must admit I'm not so keen on the frying pan, I find alot of things stick.
I'm not sure how long I've had them for, got them in Selfridges sale years ago.

  • I bought a stock pot, wok and non-stick frying pan from asda all in the last few weeks.Affordable and i use them on a regular basis.
Aldi had ones with glass lids and so do ikea.
Had no problems with any of them.
My problems were with the cheaper wilko ones the base peeled and the non-stick were not non-stick

Is the pan discoloured? If it was seriously overheated I think it would show marks so if it's not and they say you've overheated it remember that - all my overheated pans have shown marks, I've been known to burn boiled eggs:eek:

Yes it is discoloured but not on the inside, only on the outside bit that bulged - not any other bit of the base

There was cold water in with the veggies while it sat there, before I turned it on.

Thanks everyone for the tips and comments.

Ho hum. Seen a nice Morphy Richards set of 3 pans in Argos that have a 10 year guarantee and only cost £30 - do you reckon that's too cheap? 10 years seems reasonable to me :)

  • Hi Newlywed,
    me again! :D

Have a look at this site, it has loads of advice on what to look for when buying pans.

My advice would be to buy the best you can afford. They could last you 25+ years. I haven't done my homework, but I think you're looking for 18/10 steel......
