Thanks again for the replies!
I have the SAR mostly typed and ready to go but have just seen this latest post and now don't know whether to send it or not?
I also wanted to quickly ask before sending the SAR, do we have to list specific items of information that we would like to see, or do we just say something on the lines of "please send all data relating to...".
I know in the template letter it gives some specific exanple items, but we aren't really sure what we should be asking for so thought a "send everything" approach might be a better option?0 -
Sorry to bump but can anyone advise please? I'd really like to get this done today if possible.
Thanks0 -

Thanks fatbelly, before I do, could you advise on my question here please? Sorry about this, I just want to be sure I'm doing things right0 -
A SAR is not going to cause you any issues and it will mean we won't be all guessing here.Instead he should first request their document retention schedule.
I can understand the issue raised here. If their schedule is 3 years then your SAR will only go back to 2016. But the SAR will show that anyway by the date of the oldest document,Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

I couldn't get an answer on my specific question about what to ask for in time to catch todays post, so I have sent the SAR and added some bits into it for specific items (signed agreements etc) using the template, so hopefully that will give us some more info.
Thank you again for all of your advice, I really would be stuck without this forum!!0 -
Hello again!
I am back with an update and you've guessed it.....more questions! The SAR was sent as advised and they have now responded saying that they need more information to prove who my OH is.
Now this does not sit well with me.....if they have enough information to chase him for an unpaid debt, then why do they need more information to prove who he is? Surely they should have established that before starting to chase him?
The letter that they have sent says that they need to carry out a "verification and ID check" before they can supply any information, but they have asked him to contcact them via e-mail to provide his phone number and e-mail contact details. How does providing his mobile number and e-mail address verify his identity in any way? My worry is that once they have his number, they will hound him with phonecalls.
So, does he have to provide this information to them for the SAR to be completed? After reading the ICO website, from what I can gather, they must fulfill his request even if he does not provide any further information because they have a "reasonable amount" of information to verify that it is him making the request - name, address and unique reference number from THEIR chasing letters.
Again, any advice would be most helpful as to what our next move should be.0 -

No. They do have to make an ID check but as you guessed, they sometimes ask for more than they need. Passport or driving licence should be enough.
Remind them if they fail to send the information, he is entitled to raise the issue with the Information Commissioner and even the Local Government Ombudsman. They can rule on what is reasonable.
Why phone and email is needed seems odd.Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

What is the debt collectors number one weapon of choice that allows them to come right into your front room and interupt you watching corrie ?
The telephone of course.......dont provide any further contact details, you are not oblighed to, and under GDPR you can request contact in whatever form you choose.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thank you - again!
We will write back to them to say exactly as you have advised and see what happens next.
In the meantime, can they continue to chase him and add extra charges to the amount (as they have said they will) because this is my worry - it isn't a huge amount at the moment but will quickly rise if they keep adding charges on whilst we wait for them to send this information.0
