This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Well at this time everyone should be snuggled up in bed. Sadly I'm up and at it....well up drinking tea and having a chill before the madness starts again. Off to Preston today for a management course which I'm comfortable with but could have done with some prep ideally.
Yesterday my stress levels were off the scale thanks to missing a train (thanks cab company for assisting with that one) then a day being told how awful life is for my misery of a mother...mostly because it was raining! I do have a bit of a rule in life about not spending any time around negative people who bring you down but its a bit hard to dump your mother
Anyway managed to get some work done in the afternoon which was highly productive as I secured a weeks work in Sheffield next week which will ease the financial stretch for a while.
That does mean of course that mum shopping is out ...haven't told her yet and cant say I am looking forward to the woe is me that will come out. Hey ho needs must
Tuna rolls made up for lunch with an apple to keep the doctor away
Right best put some proper clothes on make a start. Have a good day all
Speky I thought my travelling to the next town for a dentist appointment was a bir far but you take the biscuit particularly for one who does a bad job
Hope you make the trip worthwhile with some social time
OL sorry to hear about another loss in your family

Morning All
The bedding is in the WM but will have to stay inside to dry as rain is on the way - should have done it yesterday! I've done the little bit of ironing I had and cleaned the filters in the DW, it was starting to smell.
I'm sure your DDs baby will be very much loved Snoozer no matter the sex. My DD doesn't want to know so we shall have a surprise which is nice although I've seen a few things I would have bought if I knew.
Hope you and your DM are ok Gers.
No yoga tonight, my buddy had a breast cancer operation yesterday. I'll go to the allotment again tonight, went yesterday and it was all locked up again.
Have a happy Wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Dull, dreich and wet underfoot, lots of laying water and it appears not to be raining at the moment but forecast is for rain all day again, so it'll start at some point no doubt. It's cold here too.
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly, and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and am enjoying first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be eating but I do have a couple of options so will think about that during today.
Work yesterday was ok, we had a meeting so that broke the day up a bit and I was on my early finish. Last full working day for me today, although I'm working Saturday to help someone out.
I have of course my normal "to do" list for tomorrow and Friday, because it had been dry and mild I'd been doing a load of washing daily so when it got to Thursday there was only a little load for washing, as it's rained almost continously since last week I've not done any, so basket is quite full. I'll get a load in the WM this morning so at least I've made a start. I'll have to use the TD.
Keep safe and well x

|Good morning everyone :hello:
I don't know what the weather is doing today as the blinds are closed but I can't hear any rain so that is better than yesterday. I am sat here waiting for the grandchildren to arrive as their mum has work this morning. It is peaceful at the moment but it will soon be shattered.
Poor Lee travelled all the way to college yesterday which took a lot longer than usual due to a very nasty accident on the road. When he got there he was told that there were no more lessons and he was on study leave so he had to turn round and come back home. He just has to go in for a maths exam near the end of the month and he will have finished completely for the academic year. I am so proud of him and what he has achieved.
I have the foot lady coming today to check my trotters and give them a once over. I really really hope she doesn't cut me again as my foot is still sore from when she treated them 7 weeks ago. I think she will be very careful this time. I also have the district nurses involved in my care again. It is a relief to have my legs dressed properly.
It is quite the week for visitors for me, my mum came to see me yesterday and I have my new mental health worker coming tomorrow. My bestie also wants to come over either today or tomorrow so that will be fab.
I think we are having tacos for tea tonight, I will have to check we have all the ingredients first. Lilly has been nagging for them for weeks so she will be happy. Apart from that there isn't much else going on. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the early kick off NELSKI. Yet again heavy rain forecast for us but today they could be right! Rained all night and trying it's best to start again now.
Not the best start to the day but I have been sitting here in floods of tears! I read the little story and watched the video of the WW2 sweethearts reunited after 75 years. Oh so emotional. She is French and he is American.
I was nearly in tears last night too when the gardener left! Lol! This makeover is going to be a far more expensive job than I anticipated but, there again, I knew it wouldn't be cheap. As well as a new fence I want all the slate chippings that have been down for years replacing. He reckons there will be about 2 ton of them and I will need a skip for him to dump them in, along with the greenery, shrubs and tree I want shut of. I await his estimate with bated breath! Oh well, there are no pockets in shrouds as the saying goes!
I managed my bus trip to Ilkley yesterday with no rain to spoil it but oh it was cold. I have been on the lookout for a while for a new summer dress (will I eventually get any wear out of it I ask myself!) and spotted one I liked with 30% off so that was snapped up. A quick wander then back to M & S for the bits on my list before the bus back home.
Today is my postponed from yesterday coffee and lunch meet up with my oldest buddy and much talking and reminiscing will be done as usual. We calculate that now it will be 66 years since we first met at junior school. Where have all those years gone!
I have the DGDs here for staggered late tea and sleepover after their various clubs, dancing etc. Will do a freezer dive shortly for something quick and easy.
Have a lovely day folks if you can despite this horrible weather. ((HUGS)) as always for all who need them. Thinking of you all. Take care xx ps GERS what a lovely treat for you from your friends. Where would we be without our friends eh! Hope DM is a bit better today."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Not raining here atm but its due to all day and its cold !! its looking very wintery and im sat here wrapped in a blanket. DD text me last night ti say it was 32 deg and that they were boiling, I could so do with some of that !!
Ive got some chicken out for tonight I have a plain breast and OH some sweet chilli ones will do some new pots and peas with it I think, or rice and peas.
Bins out today and I need to do a wash tonight which will have to go in the td.
Right I had better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning all, apologies for my absence. I just haven't really felt that I had a lot to add to the conversation.
I am gradually getting straight in the new place, the garden has been utterly neglected and I've been de-brambling it, uncovered a paved path, there is still a lot to do. Most if the repairs in the house were completed yesterday, the chaps should be back at the end of the week to remove rubbish left here, though I've managed to dispose if quite a bit myself.
My mother's funeral is this week.
OL I'm sad to see your family news.
Speky, my dentist is a private one, rather expensive but would not charge for treatment to a tooth that was filled only days before.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Nelski
OL sorry to hear of your family loss
AOD hope your DM's funeral goes as well as these things can
Feels quite cool here this morning.
I have to clean marble, when I googled it said use non-ionic soap or detergent, not sure what that is, anyone know ?
Thoughts are with all those finding life difficult. If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning, the weather is terrible here, asI know it is everywhere. The rain arrived last night. It was so cold yesterday, don't know what it's like today.
Speky, you should get your tooth sorted out with no charge, surely.
OL, sorry to hear you've had another family loss.
AOD, glad you're getting settled, but you'll be glad when this week is over.
I didn't get time to post yesterday, Dgd had stayed overnight, I took her to school then went straight on to Tai Chi. When I got home Dgs had arrived for his usual Tuesday visit. We went to the Tuesday quiz, got home about 10.45, so that was Tuesday.
I'm meeting a friend today, I said I would take her out for lunch for her birthday, but we'll just stay local.
There's a bit of tidying to do, and some ironing, there's always ironing!
TA, hope your garden man's estimate is not too frightening - sit down before you open it. As you say, it comes hard to have to pay people to do things you've always done yourself.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can, don't get washed away in the rain.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning folks.
Yesterday was a blur of medical visitors. Two important ones were the GP and the dietitian. GP took time to kindly explain to DM that how she was in what’s called ‘natural progression’.DM now has developed what is probably angina after the long term AF. The dietitian came, she was so lovely, with some Ensure fruit juices for DM to try out - she enjoyed them so will be prescribed them too. DM’s appetite has diminished greatly.
Today will be one of high stress levels for me. I have an audiology appointment at my local hospital which I’ve been waiting for for ages. DM’s friend is coming in to sit, he’ll probably do his own work whilst she sleeps most of the day. Scrabble could be played too. My worry is that there are lots of roadworks and idiots on the road. It’ll do me good to be away and I will be try not to fret too much.
I’ve prepped food for DM and friend. Now I must prep myself. My thoughts are with those struggling. Happy Wednesday to all.0 -
I'm travelling today from south to north so I anticipate consistently cold weather with a good sprinkling of rain. I finished watching the series Chernobyl last night. Goodness it was a brilliantly crafted drama with superb acting but I realise I had so little understanding of the disaster. I know it's a bit of a joke to moan about our health and safety rules and regs but this drama is a somber warning of what happens to people when there is a deliberate disregard for safety. It's well worth watching. I wasn't sure if I'd like it, I suppose like the film Titanic - you watch it knowing it isn't going to end well!0
