Thread hijack, but can if I've done too much mileage to use form p87, can I just claim for less mileage to stay under the 2500 limit?

Hardly seems worth doing a self assessment for the sake of a few hundred when the p87 form is so easy

You must have too much money if you believe that to be the case.

    Thanks

But in answer to the question, can you use p87 to claim less mileage to stay under the limit? I can't see why not, as you'd be asking for less, essentially.

Suppose there's nothing stopping you completing a P87 with what you want. But what happens if HMRC request mileage logs etc?

In addition completing a Self Assessmeny will mean you get any refund far quicker than P87 method.

It's more the complexity of the self-assess form as opposed to the p87 being simple. I am a tad nervous about making a mistake as there are loads more questions compared with the P87.

But if it's the right thing to do, i'll crack on and do the self-assess, i've got my activation code now.

Other query - I've got mileage records as we keep them on our works systems - do they ever ask for fuel receipts when you're claiming this relief?

    Thanks again.

It will be a lot less complicated than you think.

They will check some claims, so keep all records
