O/S Daily Tuesday 11th June 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull, dreich and still raining, it hasn't stopped since it started yesterday - everywhere now very wet, lots of laying water. No line drying at the moment.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had fish cakes and veg. I remembered to get the pork steaks out of the freezer so tonight we'll be having pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy.

Work yesterday was steady - busier than we expected as very often when it rains people don't visit. The phone lines were quite busy also. Early finish day today.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We were lucky with the weather yesterday, no rain until tea-time and then it was only spits and spots. Heavy rain forecast for today but doubt we will be so lucky again!

If the rain does hold off I plan on the bus to Ilkley for M & S food. I actually got some good salad offers on my Sparks card, including a free cucumber! Plus money off eggs & new pots. My stocks of their fish that I like are running low but sadly no offers on that!

So the saga of the "Rogers". The first one never even replied to my message and the 2nd one only does basic garden tidying not the bigger jobs I am wanting doing. So back to the drawing board. I scrolled through the local Nextdoor site for gardener recommendations and narrowed it down to one. I left him a message and within minutes he rang me back. I outlined the jobs I wanted doing and he is coming tonight to have a look. He is more than just a handyman so I expect to pay more but so be it. It comes hard paying someone to do the jobs we used to do ourselves but needs must.

No Tuesday coffee and lunch meet today. Friend had something on so it's postponed until tomorrow.

Have a good day folks if you can and I hope the weather isn't too unkind for you. ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and take care all xx

    Morning All

Another bright morning, only a couple of small showers yesterday but the washing stayed in as I was at work.

I went shopping with DD after work, got a new jacket, trainers and backpack for my holidays, I'm all sorted now thank goodness.

Must try to fit in a visit to the allotment after work today, feel like I haven't been for ages, the weeds will be awful!

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning chums,

Pleased to report I slept for about 8 hours last night. My new mathematical alarm did go off at 5.30 for the gym but I felt in desperate need for sleep, so I managed to do my 3 sums and nod back off.

I didn't manage to the gym yesterday unfortunately as I had a few odd jobs to do around the house, which I am pleased to say are now ticked off the list. I bought my return tickets for going back up to Glasgow in August which cost me £40 all in. Which is fine I suppose. I use about that in diesel when I drive, it takes about the same amount of time and so the difference is, this time I get to relax a bit.

Dentist appointment booked for 5pm on Friday. So once again, I'll leave here at around 1ish and drive up. No pain or anything in my tooth but it does look and feel really not right. Given it's the same tooth that they done work on last week, should I be expected to pay for full price for treatment again?

TA - You'll be glad when it's done

    Edit
Organza - We double posted. Thanks for asking but for now, I'm fine

    Morning everyone,

Like lots of you I do wish the rain would stop now. Yesterday it was really heavy from when I got up and was still as bad when I went to bed. I want summer now. I need to start getting out and about. Being stuck at home on my own is making me more depressed.

This morning I am going to take the opportunity to make the most of a small break in rain and go to the supermarket shortly, then I have a blood test booked at the surgery mid morning. I really need to do some washing but have decided to leave that until we get some better weather because I don't want it drying in the house.

I hope that you are all getting on as well as you can. Take care everyone xx

Speky, I would be very cross if they tried to charge me for that.

Got to Yorkshire last night to find the heating on, Steve must have forgotten to turn it off when we left last time so I hope it hasn't been coming on too much.

Laura has her 20 week scan today so we will see if it really is a girl, fingers crossed because Laura would quite like a girl.

We're meeting friends for lunch in Barnoldswick and will try to walk Ziggy in between rain showers. We seem to be just on the edge of it.

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

Not much to say, it is supposed to be dry today so I'll try and get some work done in the garden. Not much else planned.

forgot to get some thing out of the freezer last night so will see what can be cooked from frozen.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning all.

Yesterday DM spent some time in the sitting room although in the evening she became more unwell. The GP is visiting today so we shall see what is happening.

On a lovely note some of my really good friends clubbed together to send me a box full of things to cheer me up! A packet of fudge, some coffee bags, some tea bags and a large mug. It was so nice of them, reading the card they enclosed made me cry. I felt so loved!

DM has been in the bathroom for a long time, I need to go and check on her.

    Happy Tuesday to everyone.

    Afternoon all,
Been messing about doing odd jobs, even cleaned the wheelie bin which had just been emptied.DS2 has just come home early with stomach pains,he's not been right since last week when he had a d& v bug thats been doing the rounds here. He's meant to be picking up DGD from school, and taking her to her Mums -have to see how he is in a bit. She had the last overnighter last night as we are back to normal today, her other Nana is back off hols today so I'm just finishing the last of her laundry. It's been lovely having her for an extended time, but by heck she is messy :eek:She was thrilled yesterday as she had to do a 'show and tell' presentation about her holiday. We printed some snaps off over the weekend and she wrote about it etc,and her teacher was very complimentary. It's all go as she has her last class assembly tomorrow before moving up to KS2.Luckily DGS sports day has been cancelled again as they were similar times.
Snoozer,an exciting day for Laura ahead

What a lovely gesture by your friends Gers :)
OL, sorry to hear about your cousin's loss, what a shame.
I'm off to catch up on my soaps, keep missing them with DGD here,
hope you are all having a good day xx
