Recipe inspiration needed for Thanksgiving!

Bit of an odd request... I've been racking my brains and dont know what to do...
Basically we are invited to a big Thanksgiving meal this coming weekend by friends of ours... and we all take a couple of dishes along for everyone to eat. But I dont know what to cook!?

Already being made:
Onion tart
Ham tart
Roasted Veg
Veggie Sausage dish
Puddings all sorted so nothing there (Pumpkin Pie etc)

There are two veggies at the meal (hosts) so we dont go in for the traditional turkey in case anyone wonders why its missing!
Whatever we do it needs to be able to be cooked at our house, transported for 30 mins then kept warm at their house till we eat... tricky.

I need to provide a couple of things. Would be nice to have something else veggie or a variation on the veggie theme like the onion/ham tarts.
Help!!!

  • How about coleslaw, potato salad, baked potatoes, salad, bread?

Good ideas and easily transportable... but it is still a traditional(ish) Thanksgiving dinner just without the turkey so not sure salady things will go very well...

Im thinking along the lines of side dishes like sweet potato gratin, ratatouille, cauliflower cheese.

Any ideas welcome though - any tried and trusted recipes? :o
  • I notice potatoes are conspicuously absent. That will never do! ;)

How about a nice creamy potato gratin? I can give you a recipe... though it will be veganised as DH and I are both vegan.

I usually adapt recipes from Epicurious or AllRecipes... just look for the highest rated recipes and read through the suggestions within the reviews for any additional pointers.

Or how about HM stuffing and veggie gravy? Don't need a turkey to have stuffing! Or maybe a nut roast. Or a nut roast with stuffing. (I haven't tried that one, but it looks good).

I had this at a thsanksgiving dinner once, cooked by an american so trust me on this;)
Mashed sweet potato in a dish baked with marshmallows all over the top. Sopunds weird but the Americans thought it was quite normal.
