Wow, here we go.
Hi folks, and welcome to my diary. I am principally keeping this log as a testament of my recovery from a life of serial debt, lies and dishonesty. It may well prove to be educational, entertaining and useful for others if so, so much the better.
I should note that a diary is an entirely alien concept to me. I have been running away from problems for the vast majority of my adult life and as such a faithful account and acceptance of my financial affairs has never been a welcome thought. However I have come to accept this is a necessary task and I am determined to tackle it head on.
My financial situation is grim. I have circa £57k worth of unsecured personal debt via a virtual who’s who of card and loan providers. I have the majority of these on 0% balance transfer deals but these are coming to an end, the unremitting march to these promotional deals ending fills me with a nighty dread.
I must be honest at this point and address the sole reason why I have accumulated such an enormous debt pile - Gambling.
I have had a lifetime of horses and dogs and ‘zero and the neighbours’ at the casino. I have an addiction to gambling which I am addressing via GA and CBT. Unfortunately diary debt and gambling are the two sides of the coin - they go hand in hand.
I have reached out to StepChange who have suggested I proceed with a DMP - my job means I cannot look at formal solutions, moreover I do not want to put my family home in jeopardy.
This diary will document my journey as an abstaining gambler trying to normalise my financial affairs and return to a life I has long since withdrawn from.
