6 years...the count down is on

The 6 year time frame is for the defaults to drop of my credit file.

Credit cards: 1892
Loans: 5369
Catalogue: 2507
Overdraft: 1176
TOTAL: 10944
Defaults: 9

I am going down the cca/unenforeable/sb route and have paperwork ready for a DMP once they come calling. I am 1 year into SB already and have been told one cca is unenforceable :T doesn't stop them sending letters though.

I am on a very low income at present (uni student) , only 19 more months to go :j

I have 4 credit cards that are still open and I'm paying them off a little over the min each month, all have a very low limit (200-400).

My aim is to pay off as much as possible on the none defaulted debt by Jan 2020. The defaulted debt I will either not be paying (CCA/SB route) or paying a little each month with the hope of getting low settlement figures each year.

I use YNAB but still haven't gotten control of my weekly spending. I am thinking to take out £60 a week from July to cover pub/food/other (not including main groceries).

I shall be using this diary to post my daily/weekly spending

Well the above never happened. I had a new thread under a new name before all the form changes but can no longer access it so will re-start this one.
Yesterday my uni placement in theatres got cancelled  :'( I was 3.5 weeks into a 7-week placement. I am in year 3 of my nursing degree. My uni classes, due to start up again in May, will most likely be online and I continue to work on my assignments. I really enjoyed my placement and through all that is happening, I learnt a lot, alongside the rest of the staff there. I ended my placement with training on ventilator machines and what staff are expected to do with ITU patients not in ITU.
I feel fortunate that I still have a job for 23 hrs a week within the same hospital and I am hoping to get back onto the bank of my local trust.

I will do a more detailed update int he next coming days.

  • What should I be doing with any extra cash I make throughout the month? But it towards debt or save it?

Set my budget to the bare min for December. I start my new role next Monday but think I'll get paid for November hours in December's pay. I have my budget set for everything but social spends, can we extend the lockdown till the new year lol

Oh yeah, I won on the lottery last Friday! £130 the most I've ever won. As it was a rollover I would have only got £30 otherwise.

Hi, just found your diary. It might be worth you joining some challenges on here, helped me when I was paying off debt. Even the smallest amounts help to drive it down. One Debt vs 100 Days is a good one. If you’re undecided where to put extra cash why not go for 50% to debt, 50% savings. Well done on the Lotto win 👍

will have a look at the challenges, don't think there's much if anything in the budget to anything with though.

  • I'm doing one of the challenges.. the november NSD one... dudn't think it would be but it really does.
As does my diary...its boring but  it does help.
Its been my first months and I'm a bit all over trying to pay small bits off everything... I've worked out I need to focus on one thing to pay off a bit extra each one and save a bit each month.
Also I've found taking out my food budget in cash really stops me over spending in that area.
    Good luck

  • Start my new job tomorrow. Not sure how I will be supernumerary for 2 weeks though. My area is meant to be a private surgery unit but due to covid it is being used as the discharge lounge. This should be the case till at least March.
