Pension overpayment?

Hello

My father passed away earlier this year and one of the pension companies are asking for an amount of money to be returned that was an over payment. It's only a small amount, so I'm not that bothered, but I just wanted to know if it's possible to request money back that was paid before death?

The company says that the pension was paid a month in advance, so it is therefore an over payment. Seems though he had a week in which he could have theoretically spent it.

Have people come across this before? Not being a pensioner myself I'm not sure if pensions are sometimes paid in advance.

Thanks in advance

Hello VMF199 some pensions are paid in advance so it is very possible for a payment to be overpaid. The trustees have a duty to collect the overpayment.

    My sympathies.

Yes, the pension company do have the right to request an over issue of pension - but it should only be repaid out of his estate. If your father died insolvent, then the debt doesn't pass to you.
