I'd agree that this looks like a clear vote loser across the country, but may help with the votes of Tory party members. It isn't necessarily clear though what the impact on total tax take would be due to the Laffer curve.
The best thing for many would be enjoying how much it annoys the Scots who would then have a huge band at 53% tax and NI...

Do you have such a hatred of the Scots? I think independence for Scotland is getting closer to becoming a reality! I say that as someone that voted against it in 2014. Maybe this will please you of course!

Certainly not a hatred, I'm just one of those who was heavily influenced by the rhetoric of the last independence campaign which left a clear majority in Scotland wishing to remain part of the UK but a majority South of the border in favour of them leaving.

Not so. For those of us who are past state pension age as we don't pay NI it really is 20% & 40% so 100% more.

And also those before state pension age and are getting a pension and a salary.

'm just one of those who was heavily influenced by the rhetoric of the last independence campaign....

I, too, am of the opinion that the result might have, possibly, by a small margin, a merest smidgen, been slightly different had the rest of the UK been allowed to vote on Scotland's membership with the UK...

But that would be to drift somewhat off-topic to the main thrust here.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
