I wanna lava lamp or similar

Any ideas folks, I'd like to get my daughter a lava lamp or similar, not too expensive if possible? Thanks.

I googled lava lamps and got loads and loads!

Lots at Argos - most lamps are about a tenner - This is the Argos link CLICK - Was it something more specific you wanted?

  • If the lava lamp is for long term use, I'd go for Mathmos - the original and the best IMHO. After a while the wax and fluid mix a little and become cloudy. Mathmos sell "refills" whereas the cheaper ones don't.
  • We got Sis a cheap one (Arg*s probably) last year, it was rubbish. Looked okay before you switched it on, but the wax/lava thing just never flowed properly ... waste of money

I have an old one which I think is technically illegal now because it's filled with oil or something.
  • Thanks for all the answers, very helpful. It was just a real cheapy I wanted for a stocking filler (big stockings in our house!) and I never thought of Argos who seem to have a good variety so I'll probably end up there and keep my fingers crossed it's ok but I'll bear in mind the other comments re long term use. Thanks again, MSE comes up trumps again!

Hi-I saw some in Sainsburys the other day, and they had 20% off all lighting.
  • Just to finish off this tale, I thought I'd hang on and check out the sainsburys tip and did so yesterday. Really pleased as I got a really nice (looks good quality!*) lamp there which, with the 20% off was down to £11.99. Also picked up a new shade for my downstairs loo which is being re-fitted (also 20% off) and a couple of reduced bits/presents on the 3 for 2 so all in all a very good tip. Thanks!

Wow, just looked, Crestworth, Poole, Dorset - although it's not in great condition but all is original afaik. I thought it was just junk, so thanks for the pointer. It's not been used in ages because I couldn't be bothered searching for a bulb for it.
