Thank you for your replies. People seem to have had different experiences from DWP. I guess I am stressing for nothing (should know better at my age!). Still, battling with DWP and HMRC (if I have to) will keep my brain active!!

It is interesting to hear that Gers their letter in March for July start while Freeman24 had to ring up with less than 3mths left and I have been catagorically told I cannot make any kind of claim until 2mths or less before pension due date!

    What grnglide says makes sense...

Here's my letter with personal details redacted - note the dates.

I can't account for how the DWP acts, all I can recount is my experience!

That is an ANSOD which is sent out when the award has been calculated rather that an invitation to claim.

DWP tend to change their processes often depending on the resources the have available, the phases of the moon etc.p

Is this a final award whereby the contributions for 2018/2019 are already available (very unlikely on 26 April) or the contributions for this year will make no difference to the payable amount ? In practice many (most?) people will gain nothing from the final year.

Yes, I know what it is. I got the invitation to claim, along with a code, in March.

And yes, I had to have contributions for 2018/19 to have a full claim. I've posted elsewhere about having 49 years contributions (30 years contracted out) and needed to complete the past tax year.

The workings of any government agency is beyond most so us!

For all those in the same predicament as me, I phoned the DWP claim line and even though it gives only the option to claim over the phone IF there is less than 2mths left before your "pension date", I persisted with the call and got put through to someone who offered to let me claim there and then! He said the details would be checked and a letter of confirmation would be sent out within 10 working days.
He had no idea where my invitation letter might have got to but it doesn't matter anymore!

So thanks to all the contributors to this thread. It seems like I have got there in the end!:T:j:beer:

Received my invitation today, dated 10th Jul, for a 6th Nov start date. Filled in the on line application and got an immediate e-mail receipt confirmation.
