20 odd years ago as a child in the USA I would go out specially looking for bottles and cans that I could take to the supermarket for a credit note back.

Many countries run these schemes successfully and it is long over due here.

Before the carrier bag charge came into force there were many moans and negative scenarios imagined, very few of which have come true!

    Morning
last year whilst in New York i saw a homeless person going through the bins to collect bottles. I went to hand her my bottle so she could put it directly in her bag and she knocked it out of my hand onto the floor:rotfl: so i still had to put in the bin:)

I cant wait for these schemes to roll out in my area

It's just a gimmick. it's unworkable 99% of the time and unusable for 99% of bottles. It's just a marketing ploy so they appear to be "walking the walk", but all they're really doing is "talking the talk".

They're trying to lure people in with a headline, when the devil's in the detail and most people will not be able to benefit from it at all. A few will be fooled into going out of their way to using it and feeling that they've "got something for nothing + saved the planet", but, if they think about it, if they'd popped those bottles in their regular recycling they'd have never got the car out and driven to Sainsbobs and then never gone in and bought that "treat for being good" ... and all for 5-10p.

Marketing sleight of hand and magic tricks.

Ocado charges for  bags but if you recycle them with driver you get 5p per bag. There are limits on £ back at the moment.

I'd happily use this recycling facility if they get one in one of our local stores. I was an avid wombler with Asda when they were doing it, would fill a nice hole in my time! Anyway, it's discount off using the store, I don't use Sainsburys much so this incentive would ensure I go there more, which after all will be profitable to them. Win, win!

I'm not keen on using Ocado again however if I do I have quite a lot of carrier bags from online deliveries, could get £5-£10 cashback so worth keeping them "just in case".
