FAO recent BT pension drawers with added years

Hi,

I just received my pack from BTpensions and have a query that I thought I would check on here before ringing them.

In the "Your retirement statement booklet" on the last page entitled "About you" it lists all your relevant details. In the last part called "This includes" it lists "Added years" and has mine as 0 years 0 days. I had been paying for added years since I started in 1981 until I left in 2004....should this be shown here? Did anyone have any thing listed in that part who had been buying added years?

Thanks

  • Mine is the same despite having purchased a few years over time- the total pension shown is correct and includes the added years so I’ve not been too bothered. I’ve pointed it out to the helpdesk at least 3 or 4 times but it never changes.

I suppose that what you mean by "added years" (scheme benefits for which you paid additional contributions) and what the pension statement means are actually the same thing?

I ask this because I have a vague memory of a scheme which under certain circumstances, did "add years" to a member's entitlement for which the member had not had to pay.

I rang btpensions yesterday and they are looking into it 🤔!

I checked with a friend who took his pension earlier this year and his statement showed his added years! This seems at odds to yours madeinireland..... How do you know your calculation is correct as we don't really have any idea what it should be precisely.

When I took VR in 2004 I used a chunk of the money to purchase more pension and I'm wondering if the added years somehow got wrapped up with that.

I'll report back if/when I hear back from Accenture.
  • Skycatcher - yes please do report back if you find out.

Good luck on getting a quick response - there are a few people looking into it on my behalf that I’ve never heard from again.

I know precisely how long I worked for and I was in the process of buying a maximum of 4 and a half years through additional salary contributions. I took release a couple of years ago so didn’t manage to get the full additional years I was hoping to get as I had not contributed till 60. - but they were building up at about 50 days a year.. While at work the number of days you had bought was shown on the online portal on the yearly statement as a number of days I seem to recall.

So in effect (off the top of my head and in approximation) I had worked for 32 years and had, at the time of leaving, bought about 3 and a half added years making the total 35 and a half years which is shown in my personal info as my total of years of service. So although this has not been split out and shown as added years it’s still on the overall total - I have tracked my pension carefully - it could be wrong by a few days at most.

    Hope this helps...

Hi Madeinireland...I sat down today and worked out my total days of work. This did seem to talley with the number they have listed as my total service so I guess as you have ponted out it just hasn't been split out to show those added years. Strange that my friends were though!?!

I find it annoying that when I purchased more pension via the VR lumpo sum it didn't detail how many years you were getting.

thanks and I will report back if I hear from them. I will give them a week then raise a ticket via the portal.
