2nd job tax

Sorry if this has been posted before, I have searched and googled but cant find a specific answer.

I have a full time job working 36 hours, but am considering a further 30 hours from a 2nd job. Obviously I am aware that this will be hard work, but can someone tell me if I'm going to be taxed massively on the 2nd job? It wont take me over the next threshold, so will I get taxed the same as my first job or different?

if you are currently paying 'standard rate' tax (22% ) and the second job doesn't take you into the 40% tax band then

you will pay 22% tax on your second income
and you pay NI at 11% on anything over £100 per week
your second employer should set your tax code to BR

Your primary job income and tax code etc will be unaffected.

They did say it would be set at BR, but said it as tho that was a bad thing? I was always under the impression that BR meant the max (40%), if that just means it's set to whatever level you are on at the mo, without going over, then that would be a lot better!

    Thanks
