Update on Being Debt Free

I have posted on here over the years about being in debt and how my life was a mess, I had a good job with good money and my husband was well paid but ended up getting myself into a lot of debt and came onto this forum for advice and basically to save my sanity. Anyhow in 2014 I posted saying I had one payment in February to go and that would have repaid the 35k I owed, it took me a long while to pay it off and I had a payment plan with Payplan, I was skint every month and had nothing left but was glad when it was paid back. Anyway five years on from that I have bought a house, have a really good business and have had no debt since. I look back at the way things where financially and they where a mess so yes you can make a plan and get out of debt and when you do it feels good and you never want to go down that route again. I just wish everyone the best of luck and just wanted to update that it can be done, I did it and I was terrible with money, I had more going out that I had coming in. But careful spending now has got me to where i want to be in life - debt free happy and living the life i always wanted with my husband. I wish everyone well on there journeys to be debt free x

It's good to see someone post on here who has managed to stay out of debt after sorting out their finances. You have gone from having basically nothing 5 years ago when you paid off your debt to owning a house outright without even needing a mortgage which is pretty impressive.

But don't forget not all debt is bad. Using a credit card to get Section 75 protection on purchases and getting a mortgage to buy a house wouldn't be any kind of "failure" if they are managed well and budgeted for.

I like posts like this ! I am currently about half way through a DMP and lately have been struggling as my social life is pretty non existent as I am paying everything off, no holidays planned this year ( last year I had 3 !!) I know i'm doing the right thing and will get there in the end just like you did :-) Well done
