Don't believe road closure maps.
The road leading to my house has been closed due to water pipe work . The only diversion is by a farm track . The council road closure map says the road is open, so I rang to suggest they amend it . The answer was they cant put it on the map as there is no proper diversion This means delivery companies just send no access messages .

I won't, thanks for the warning.0

Is there really no other road route to your property?
So how would you suggest the council publicise this farm track as a route suitable for all vehicles that the original route was suitable for?
Remember that last bit - publicised diversions have to be suitable for ALL the vehicles that could use the old one. When there was some resurfacing on an A-road round here recently, the published diversion was about 35 miles. Everybody local used a largely-single-track shortcut that didn't add any distance - but if wagons had used that, it would have been hilariously chaotic (briefly).0 -
Yes there is no other route other than hiring a helicopter .We are now thinkig of declaring our 200 houses independant of the uk as we are no longer connected by road.0

So there y'go. The courier is right. There is no access for them currently.
The council can't magic up an alternative route that doesn't exist.0 -
I never believed it having put out several road closures over the years.0

Put up your own sign saying "Deliveries for (my house) - please follow this route, then put posts every so often showing the way.0

In my experience, if you put up a road closed sign, it seems to be viewed as a challenge and everyone wants to prove that it is still possible to get through! At one point when we had a road closed because of a collapsing ravine, one guy drove 25 miles to show that he could get through in his 4x4! :mad:0 -
The farmer has now got fed up with 200+ households using his farm track so he has said
he is closing the gate tonight so I will then be completely isolated from the UK road system.0 -
If there's no vehicular right of way over it, then he has every right to do so.The farmer has now got fed up with 200+ households using his farm track so he has said he is closing the gate tonight so I will then be completely isolated from the UK road system.
How far do you need to walk if you park the other side of the closure?0 -
Only about 400-500 yards but I would not park there as its prone to vandals in that area and my declaration on my insurance stated I would garage the car overnight.0
