My daughter loved the Worst Witch by Jill Murphy at 7. They were the first real non picture books she read through by herself(they do have pictures but are not picture books as such).
Jaqueline wilson became her favourites a bit later,I think around 9.
My favourites when I was that age were the wishing chair books by Enid Blyton.

How about some poety books? If you go to the bookpeople website and put the word 'poem' into the search, you get some lovely books for 7 year olds including a set of three chosen by Anne Fine when she was children's laureate for £4.99 the set!

    Hi,

The bookpeople have high school musical books - the film is hugely popular with girls atm

Careful with the Jacqueline Wilson books. Some are aimed at older children as their content is a bit more advanced.

Angels unlimited (I think they've been re-released with new title) also good series.

I too loved Malory Towers and St Clares but they left DD cold. Obviously a bit dated!!

My daughter is 7 and loves reading. She has the Lion Witch and Wardroube Collection, Malory Towers, Secret Seven and the Famous Five. She is currently reading The Naughiest Girl series also by Enid Blyton. She also enjoys the High School Musical and Bratz books, Hannah Montana and Mary Kate and Ashlea. I recently bought her the Dr Who books also from the book people, 10 books for £9.99 as she loves Dr Who. I noticed that there are Sarah Jane books out not too which I will get her. She is also into gymnastics and loves reading the biographies of famous gymnasts. I buy her books when ever I see a good offer on as she has always loved reading. Just need to get all the Harry Potter books for her now
